The other day I bought a new epiphone les paul, I really only bought it to try my hand at refinishing. I took the cover off the bridge humbucker, now it barely works. It only works when the pickup is about an 1/8th of an inch away from the strings and even then it barely makes a sound out of the amp.
Any thoughts on my problem here?

do you have a multimeter to check the dc resistance ?

Yeah well I set it to read ohm's then touched the probes to the wires on the pickup, right?
Tried that didn't do anything for the bridge pickup nor the neck.

wiring problems can cause no reading on a meter if the pickup is connected to the guitar you could unsolder the the live wire from the switch & then test it again with the meter
