Acoustic Simulation

What is the best pedal for acoustic simulation?

Just trying to get everyone's take on this. Looking for a good unit that would allow me to play my tele and switch to acoustic sounds when needed.

Thanks

James

Boss AC2 or AC3. I have an AC2 and my teles and strats sound good enough, but not exactly like an acoustic.

I am looking for that Chris Daughtry Acoustic type sound. I know he plays a gibson es-137 which may be a big factor as it is a semi hollow, but still it is more of an electric acoustic style sound. So I feel a pedal should do the trick.

They never really sound acoustic............. the best they ever get is that Melissa Ethridge sound which is, I believe an Ovation guitar, Some should, and I'm sure they could, come up with a digital re creator of sorts. You store the sounds of say a Martin D 28 which are set of like triggers on a drum set. You know, it almost sounds doable?

Hmmm now I have to work on reverse micro wave ovens that freeze things.............

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but the Boss AC2 and AC3 are the most ineffective pedals in the Boss line. They're goofy pedals and they're often ridiculed.

FWIW...I gig acoustic and only acoustic. I have several Martin, Taylor and Larrivee guitars. You can't get that sound from a pedal.

If you have to try and gett and acoustic sound from a pedal I would simply buy a chorus pedal and perhaps a compressor pedal and try to tweak and acoustic shimmer from the chorus.

This is Bosses official demo. They made it sound as good as possible with a studio guitar dude and a high end video. It sounds like a Strat and a chorus pedal.

You can find the Digitech X Series Chorus used on eBay for under $40 and that particular Chorus has a great shimmer. You could try to get an acoustic sound and a whole bunch of other spacious sounds.

In the long run, consider buying an acoustic guitar. Every guitar player needs a solid top acoustic for thinking and writing and practicing at night. It's wonderful thing.

The Yamaha FG700S is $199 everywhere. Solid top, rosewood fretboard, the tuners are like Grovers, neck and body binding...for under $200. They cost less used. Three students of mine bought this guitar and I used to have one for camping.

I owned a Boss AC-2 for a couple of weeks. Ran it thru six different amps with different guitars and one thing was clear. At best, it was OK, at worst ( which was most of the time ) it was terrible. The AC-2 is like Freddy Krueger, " The bastard son of a 1000 maniacs."

Wait a minute.......

Are you saying that Freddy Krueger is the son of Natalie Merchant?

Holy cow!

Yeah, stay away from acoustic sims. Just play a clean electric if you don't have an acoustic. You may also be wondering about the acoustic piezo bridge pickups on an electric then... and I would still tell you they are horrible. I've tried them and found it better to either switch to my acoustic or play clean electric.

I know Line 6 has a guitar called Variax that does actual modeling of various guitars, including acoustics. May be worth at least looking into, but I don't have any experience.

The only electric-acoustic I've heard that sounds good is a Godin, but it uses acoustic strings and bridge and is more of an acoustic with humbuckers added.
