My local guitar shop has a 69 princeton reverb that is mint for $750ish, BUT they also have a 68 super reverb that is also mint for around $1200. I've wanted a PR for jam sessions a long time and I have a great old Twin but Its a 74 and the SR a blackface with a silver face plate.

I would love to get em both but Im not that well padded. Is that even all that good of a deal? Im really thinkin of trading in the twin for the super but I can afford the PR and thats what I wanted in the 1st place.

What do you guys think? For the money which is the best deal?

I'd definitely go with the Princeton Reverb as that's what you really want. You have a Twin to handle the heavy lifting, and you seem to like it. Keep what you have and continue to create memories. Add the Princeton Reverb so you have a convenient box you can carry to jams and enjoy just as much as your Twin or perhaps even more.

I know a lot of people put the 70s amps down and praise the blackface era amps, but at the end of the day it's about being happy.

You like the twin, keep it.
You want a PR, buy it.

1200 for a 68 SR is an OK price, not a stupendous deal... get the Princeton, that is a good price for one, and a great amp period!

I always call these the "Talk me into it" threads ....

I'm with the others - BUY THE PR! Supers are very depressed price-wise right now with the small amp trend going on, a trend I don't see changing any time soon. You'll be able to find another nice Super when and if you need it around that range. A 69 PR for $750 is a good deal.

If you have the cash get that PR asap. You will never lose a dime on it and make a couple hundred if you ever need to. No brainer for me if I had the money and the amp was available. Wow!!! Lucky man. Post some pics when you get it!

Congrats!!! I still can't believe you said the words 'mint', '69 princeton reverb', and '$750', and were thinking no or maybe...this is a sweet miracle. This actually helps motivate me to make some darn money so I can go out and find some sweet deals!!! Can't wait to see this puppy.

If you have all 3 you got your Fender amp thing covered.
Twin
Super
Princeton
Thats a complete set right there.
Number for the Super is a tad high unless its crispy clean but that year sounds right.
A 4-10 is a fine sounding stage amp.
A Princeton is glorious in the studio or for a small gig.
Work the price on the SFSR and try to swing both.
Thats why the man made credit cards.

Ok The speaker has been replaced to a jensen p 10 so I retract the mint comment. I was a little displeased about that but still sounds great and looks fantastic. Ill try to get pics soon.

Assuming the '69 PR is mostly original, $750 is a very good deal. I'd jump on that fast.

NEVER make a post with the title "Talk me out of it!!!!" here... we'll talk you into it just so we can see photos and get our GAS fix vicariously through you

Seriously, if it were me, I'd sell the Twin and pickup the PR and the SR. Then again, I'm more of a fan of the Supers over the Twins, so that's my personal bias.

Sometimes it pays to put something in writting, just so you can go back and read it. Something about seeing it there in black and white makes everything obvious. Have fun with that Princeton, Lord knows I would

I put it on layaway so I can have time to come up with a good reason to give the wife for the purchase. At this piont in life I already own a hot rod deluxe, 69 Bandmaster reverb in a 1x15 combo cab (basically a vibro verb) and the 74 twin with jbl d120s. She doesnt realize the necessity of a Princeton reverb but after 13 years of marriage I have learned its easier to get forgiveness than permission:lol:

you could always try and sell the hrdx. it is a good amp, but considering all your others...i recently sold my older usa hrdx for 425 and ave not really missed it. just an idea if you need some more cash to throw down. regardless i feel ya on the wife bit. i need to refrain from even saying the 'a' word around the house. she knows how crazy i get when it comes to guitar a*ps...congrats again u lucky dog

Your amp list is actually good info to have. That BMR is basically a Super with a slightly smaller OT, but similar sonics and wattage. You don't really need a Super if you have that amp to cover appropriate gigs for it.

Seems to me like a PR for rehearsal/small gigs, BMR for medium gigs and Twin for large gigs/outside covers all the bases with beautiful Fender sound with right volume to headroom for any gig. The HRD seems redundant and less of an amp to me. I'd be selling that in a NYC minute to get the PR.
