Lloyd89 July 1st, 2010, 09:48 PM I'm debating pulling the factory pickups out of my 96 american strat and replacing them with something else. Im looking for something with a real twang like a tele in the bridge. In the neck I want something real smooth ( something maybe like the warren haynes sound on soulshine but without going to humbuckers) and in the middle position that real clean jingly buddy guy/ john mayer sound. Any suggestions on pickups? I want to stick with all single coils but Im willing to mix match different brands to get the sound Im looking for

I've found those to be a little thin sounding.
NEway- try Klein pickups. He's a strat guru. Plus his prices are better than Fralins.

Odd, mine are anything but thin.
jimmynumber9 July 2nd, 2010, 01:52 AM I have a pair of fat 50s in my partscaster. Wouldn't trade them for the world. They can hit darn near anything you throw at them... depending on the amp. (It's just too many highs with a roland jazz chorus...) I play with a vox cambridge (tube) and a tiny terror that I can get tones from Hendrix to Tom Petty and even Keith Urban. It's worth checking them out, i got mine on eBay for 80 dollars.
Derek Kiernan July 2nd, 2010, 02:05 AM Keystones - Strong fundamental, ultra clear bell tone with no harshness and a bridge pickup that's higher inductance to match the set in terms of tonality and output. They're also surprisingly low noise for single coils, and an amazingly low price.

Maybe it was the amp? I did take the Blues special out of my tele because it was lacking some thickness too.

I sure do like my Klein pups. I don't know that the set I have is the sound you're going for, but they are spot on for what I was looking for.
Chris make a lot of different types for Strats, read through his selection. And if I'm not mistaken he has a sale or two going on right now
