octatonic June 29th, 2010, 05:18 PM No, not that kind.
I've been rocking a rack-o-doom since the mid 90's.
I started off with a 20u behemoth:

but then pared down to something a bit more sensible (and gigable) here:

Which did me for about 2 years.
Recently I updated to an Axe FX rig which you can see here:

Axe FX has been a complete revolution on tone.
If you are into this sort of stuff then do yourself a favour and check it out.
I did a search and couldn't find a thread about it so decided to start one.
Anyone?
octatonic June 30th, 2010, 05:05 PM I guess that is a 'no' then?
:)
Ronsonic July 1st, 2010, 01:08 PM I get the impression this is mostly a Combo amp crowd. NTTAWWT.
zag1 July 1st, 2010, 01:16 PM I'm a combo dude. I did the rack thing long ago. I do studio and home stuff now so no need. That's an impressive set up ya got there though.
Rusrant July 2nd, 2010, 07:15 PM My racks stay in my studio now a days. Combos and a few pedals for me as well.
Larry F July 2nd, 2010, 08:55 PM When I inherited the job of teaching composition and electronic music, I also inherited several racks of cool stuff. That was 15 years ago and I still have everything. One of my students is working on the racks as we speak, with the goal of getting sound out of and into the computer through the analog processors in the racks.
On another note, I dislike pedals on the ground and wish there were a reasonable way to rackmount them, then having foot controls on the floor. I'm guessing that taking the guts out of a pedal box and mounting them into a rack unit raises many problems, since I haven't seen it done. From the point of view of appearance, racks neither enhance nor detract from my appreciation of the music itself. However, I wasn't playing guitar much in the 80s, and there seems to be some ill will toward the rigs of that era among guitarists today.
PennyCentury July 2nd, 2010, 10:15 PM Be careful with that rack, Eugene!

I went from a rack setup (with amps) to a more organic nod to my past,a few floor pedals and a '59 Bassman. Now,I do have a rack that has a tray in it for putting pedals that are always "on".Plus,a "no backline" rig in the rack, for gigs that need a clean backline.
