Fixing my mistakes... How should I fill these holes?

I recently attempted to drill holes to install a neck pickup in my Tele. Unfortunately, I'm not so competent at this sort of thing, and I ended up putting the holes slightly too low, causing the pickup not to be level when the pickguard is on. Then, trying to fix the problem, I made another set of holes - this time slightly too high... So, I have two questions:

What is the best way to fill these holes so I can try again?

What is the best way to get these holes in the right place? This is a vintage-style Tele and the pickup mounts on the body, not the pickguard.

Thanks!

I'd recommend a filler of some description, perhaps glue and sawdust? (make sure you push it completely into the holes)
Let that dry and harden, then measure carefully where you want it, mark it with a pencil. Take a scribe or a centre punch, and push it lightly onto the wood, this will make a little indent that the drill can centre itself in. Then just drill carefully, slowly and keep checking that it is vertical as it does in. Drill to depth and voila!

Get some flat toothpicks and wood glue. get a bunch of glue on a toothpick and push it in the hole. Repeat with more glue until it starts to ooze back out when you push the toothpick in. Now push in as many toothpicks as you can, and wipe off the excess glue. Let it dry overnight, then cut off the protruding toothpicks and sand flat.

Excellent! Toothpicks and wood glue it is.

Any suggestions for getting these holes put in the right place? Is there some trick to it?
