Echo vs. Delay

What is the difference between a delay pedal and an echo pedal or are they one and the same ?

Echo is a short delay...I see it as less repeats as well. Usually an "echo" pedal doesn't offer as long a delay time or as many repeats as a "delay" pedal.

They are the same thing.

I always think of them as different...of course they are essentially the same...but that's just me.
