Need tips for fixing a noisy Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer

I recently bought a used Behringer Xenyx 802 analog mixer on eBay. I paid $45 + shipping.

Unfortunately, when I tried out the unit @ home, the signal was polluted with static and a regular background clicking/ticking noise.

The seller has offer to refund the item cost so I'm free to try to gut the unit and attempt a repair on my own. What should I do?

I'm guessing the ticking/clicking noise is coming from the power supply. Think I need to find someone locally with the same unit so I can test out this theory.

The static might be fixable with some DeOxIt spray-on stuff. I can probably hit all of the mic, 1/4" and RCA input connectors and all the pots.

Anything else?

Based on the lack of responses, I'm forced to conclude that fixing the static and popping on my mixer is beyond the capabilities of 21st century technology.

So be it.

I have two, only one gives me issues, and that's at the buttons for "tape to ctrl room" and "tape to mix". That's where I get the occassional static problems. I'd hit it with some contact cleaner and give it a shot. You should be able to buy one of these new at GC or Sam Ash for about the price you paid, including shipping. If not, wait a bit, they'll probably put them on sale again.

Nah - more a matter of trying to fix something like your Behringer box. Not bashing their stuff, just saying that there are better candidates to throw a little TLC into, and those that I wouldn't even bother touching with a screwdriver.

Really not a Behringer bash - their Big Muff clone is a great alternative to the actual NYC RI and the Sovtek boxes IMO. It could use a little TLC right out of the gate, but no biggie.

OTOH, there's my Art Tube MP - talk about static and popping, and a useless endeavor to try and get rid of it. Circular file for that one.
