kgguitarplayer June 11th, 2010, 07:30 PM This is my first post here on the TDPRI forum! Does anyone know what tele pickup can get me the closest sound to brad paisley's telecasters? i am new to electric guitars and i really want that twangy sound as similar to brad's as possible.
robt57 June 11th, 2010, 07:39 PM Hamels ?
Kinmans ?
Starrman44 June 11th, 2010, 07:48 PM I think he uses an adder neck pup and and a voodoo or fralin bridge pup. Could be wrong. I am sure others will chime in. I'm no expert, so forgive me if I'm wrong....
robt57 June 11th, 2010, 07:50 PM On the 'Official' Site, if that is true, the pups are listed in many of his axes..

Dare I ask that Age Old Question ??...Thru what kinda Amp ?
e-merlin June 12th, 2010, 08:12 AM What kind of pickups are you using now? Have you dropped them a few thousanths? Adjusting pickups is easier and cheaper than changing them. You can probably get pretty close with what you already have.
If you have a Tele...
sjtalon June 12th, 2010, 08:44 AM A Nocaster bridge kinda has that booming plus twangy kinda deal.
I have Nocasters and I play around with the riff from the beginning of "Wrapped Around" for fun.
This is Brad, not me

I saw him live about 3 summers ago. Good thing I didn't go home until 2 days later as I was contemplating piling up all my guitars and driving over them with a logging truck.
Welcome to the forum !
Steely_Ken June 12th, 2010, 10:20 AM It starts first with you wanting that sound, and then it ends up being a number of things, Guitar, Amp, Effects, Technique,
A good start would be get a Telecaster type guitar and practice it.
But to answer your question, there is no one certain pick up that will give you that sound.
by this I mean you can't buy a Tele P.U. put it in an different style guitar and get that tone just because you bought the Pick up.
On the other hand, Mr. Paisley can probably get good tone from most any guitar.
This tone quest that you are on is for most a life long pursuit down a slippery slope.
Referred to by some as chasing your tail.
For me it has been a fun process and is worth it,
I enjoy the times when I get that Telecaster tone that I like.
indiobravo June 12th, 2010, 10:50 AM Fralin Blues Special bridge in some
kgguitarplayer June 12th, 2010, 11:26 AM Ok thanks for all the help. The amp i am using right now is an old Peavey Studio Chorus 70 and my tele is a '72 deluxe reissue, which i think is a better guitar for a rock type style playing than for twangy type country. but i'm about to sell the '72 and buy a new tele that is better fitted for country style, i'm just not sure what im getting yet.
Steely_Ken June 12th, 2010, 08:24 PM I got a new one a couple years ago and went for the reg USA Tele, no anti-hum, no new style wiring, no deluxe, nothing just a regular Telecaster for that reason to get that sound.
and it was surprisingly hard to find in a 2 tone...
After some homemade and hybrid guitars and buying lots of different pick ups, I got this and it has the sound I like.

I wouldn't sell the Deluxe. It fits with your style. You just want to add a different tone. You might want to start with a Classic 50s Tele. There are plenty of them on the used market. With a proper setup, they can get you into downtown Brad Paisleyville. Once you get on main street, it's only a matter of time 'til you get the right address...
guitarslinger92 June 12th, 2010, 09:17 PM Brad Paisley's tone comes from two major things, and they both have five fingers attached.

fezz parka June 12th, 2010, 09:55 PM Swap out the stock pots with 500k or even 1m. They'll twang.

To be Brutally Honest (I usually am)....THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/PEAVEY-STUDIO-CHORUS-70-GUITAR-AMP-/250647522066) would be the first thing I would replace to get anywhere close to Brad's Tone.

yep, tone is definately more in the player than the pickups. a good guitar player can get good tone out of any guitar.
