Deluxe Reverb speaker change

I need to put a different speaker in my 1972 DR; someone gave me a new, unused Celestion V30; I'm considering buying a lightly used Jensen P12R and using it instead...hoping for some opinions on tonal distinctions; I *think* the Jensen is an alnico made in Italy

Jensen P12R hands down for me, but if you are one of the few that like/luv a V30... I could never use a V30 alone, but paired with some other speaker it has done well for me in several setups.

For free, try it. But give it time to break in, and it will tale some time IMO.

I'm not a huge V30 lover; it's been sitting in the box for over 6 months; I have a 212 to fill and could pair the V30 with something else to make a 4 ohm cab for my '68 Bandmaster head..$50 for a slightly used P12R ain't bad

I would grab that P12R period, no to pair with the V30 though IMO. As far as pairing with the V-30, I have had best results with lower mid pronounced drivers myself.

I'd not use a P12R in a DR, no way. Too weak.

Does eminence off the copperhead in 12" if so they are a great speaker, I run them in my super with 2 legends (I think I got the recommendation for this forum if I remember correctly)

What's the Copperhead like?
I keep coming back to the Jensen C12K that they put into the RI. Fender was wise to put these into that amp, IMHO.

I agree. tried weber 12F150,C-rex. I just let the harp players play through the C12K broke in real fast. Generally don`t like Jensen re issues but the C12K seems a good match in my 68 DR. Good luck.

P12N. The DR can really use the bigger magnet and coil. The N will have more clean headroom and more low end. Top end should be a bit smoother as well since the N will have a bit heavier cone. I've heard a 64 DR with a P12N and it sounded wonderful.

Alternately, one of the most popular speakers out there for use in a DR is the Weber 12F150. For good reason, it sounds great.

I would add that if that is an old P10R your DR will probably eat it.

If you decide on Weber 12f150 consider getting the 50w.I purchased a 12f150 25w light dope a couple years ago for my 65 NR Deluxe. It sounded good and very jensen like at low to medium volume but had cone cry and all types of wierd sounds with amp dimed.I have had several Deluxe reverbs through the years with a multitude of speaker types and I prefer the brown label jensen.I have an old c12n in there now, I can't coment on the new jensen offerings

I have had one in my SFDR for many years (bought back when Ted sold them labeled as C12Ns), and it just keeps getting better with age. I have no desire to try anything else!

I have a Tone Tubby ceramic 12" that sounds great with all of my amps. I just put it into my DRRI and really love it. More detail and tight fullness.

one thing is unanimous thus far....no votes for the V30!

I have a Weber 12F150 50w in my 2002 65DRRI and liked it so much I put one in my 68 Driprail Deluxe Reverb when I bought it back in Nov 2009.

I am not a fan of alnico speakers in a Deluxe Reverb. Between the P12r and a V30 I'd go Celestion... however, any decent higher-powered ceramic speaker might be great. Eminence? Best speaker I ever heard in a bfdr for my taste was an old ceramic Jensen silver-backed Concert Series speaker.

You are so right on that Jensen Concert. A big wide sound too. I sold a mint one to a friend about 10 years ago and have reggretted not having it ever since. Had a bell cover and an EM number. It was that biege color I think.

i'm gonna try the V30, i've got it already so nothing to lose.....i am going to add another 212 cabinet however...I already have a 212 with celestion neodymium century speakers; i[m gonna pick up two hellatone 30s; will prolly mix and end up with 2- 212s, each with a hellatone and a celestion neo...that will give me the 4 ohms i need for my Bandmaster and might be a great bottom end to balance out the V30 in my 1972 DR
-i'm gonna keep my eyes out for one of those jensen concert series!
