I sure want to get a tele, and maybe some of you experienced telecaster afficianados can help me figure a fair price...I am considering a black 1988 american built standard with a rosewood neck, all original, no significant problems or blemishes, with original hardshell that is in good working order. Any help would be much appreciated, my fellow tele appreciators!

Buy it, store it away for a decade (MAYBE two) and then sell it. By then it might possibly be considered "vintage" and worth a whole lot.

In any case Mellecaster is dead on. I paid $700 for my 2008 and it wasn't 22 years old (obviously).

I paid $500 cdn for a 1992 US strat last summer, and I just bought 50th anniversary crimson burst tele with a maple neck for $600 cdn. I agree with the above statements.

Exactly.

A little time on a guitar will increase the price.

I would range from $ 425- $ 650 depending on whether it was the usual or whether it was extraordinary. There's lots of these out there - it really is about the individual guitar and whether it suits your need.

Very good to know the importance of the individual guitar as affecting value, which calls into question my decision to buy over the internet! But too late, I already locked a deal in. Probably paid a little too much for guitar, case, and shipping, but it was the oldest available (within budget) in the color I required, so it looks like a live and learn situation.... thanks to all of you for your thoughtful and worthy comments!
