I was in a music store the other day and checked out a '62 re-issue (even though I already own one). The strings felt nice. I was wondering what they were. A sticker on the back said they were 250's but did not state the guage. I have been using Fender 150 strings exclusively since the late '60s (.010 thru .038). Does anybody know what strings these guitars are shipped with from the factory? Do music stores change the strings to lighter guages to make them feel better and help make a sale? What strings do you like on your '62?

When I had my '62 reissue MIJ I had it strung with Pyramid Golds Flatwounds 13s.

I think that most Fenders are strung with 9's at the factory.

The 250's are 46-10
I use 50-38-26-17-13-10 on all my Strats the bigger wound strings helps the bottom end.
I'm no Eric Johnson freak but he uses 50-38-26-18-13-10.
Thats where I got the idea from and it works great.
So for me its kinda like the wounds from an 11 set and the plains from a 10 set.

I have always used Earnie Ball 10-46s on my 62RI.

Hi,
I use nickel wound strings in the gauge 0.10 - 0.46.
Most often D'Addario, sometimes Galli, DR, Pyramid ... I am not focused on a special brand

The reissues come with 10's from the factory. I've heard this from multiple dealers as well as from Fender. The "new" stuff comes with 9's.
Personally, I use D'Adarrio XL 115's (11 guage high E). Mostly 'cause I like the way it sounds, plus I play like a demented gorilla onstage.
