can anyone put a date on this Esquire? I only have this one photo; this belonged to a friend, I believe C Prophet may have it now.

No way to tell. It could be an early 60's esquire or it could just as easily be an 80's/90's MIJ reissue. You know the deal... Need way more information than is in that one picture.

it is not a reissue and it was not modified in any way as far as I know. I was hoping the experts might see something revealing. Other than that I can't offer any more info.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say 1961....but it's more gut feeling than fact finding...

Thanks Bill. That guitar belonged to a friend who died. Some of us were reminiscing about it and someone had that photo. That's why I can't provide any more info. It sure is pretty, that's all I know. Chuck Prophet has it now, so I guess if I need to know I can check with him.

The Volume knobs aren't MIJ RI. If all original Who knows!
The pic is so small that I cant make out the grain of the wood. If there is a little, than Alder and old, but of no grain, Basswood MIJ.

Look at how "chocolate" the sides are....That is very much like all the old original customs that I have seen....

it's all original; he had this thing before there were any made-in-Japan or made-in-Mexico Fenders, before Fender even made reissues. I remember watching it in action back in '74.
