So I've got this FMT tele with a carved top and humbuckers. Currently there's a seymour duncan JB and a Jazz in bridge and neck respectively. It's a great guitar and gets a cool sound. It's just not very tele-like. It has more of a les paul vibe to it. It also has a push-pull tone knob for coil splitting. My question is could I load it up with a couple of TV jones Super trons without any major modifications? I'm a big Gretsch fan and have a 5120 decked out with TV jones powertron plus and super tron in bridge and neck. I love the sound of the super tron and I bet it would rock as a bridge pickup. Finally is there anything I could do with that push/pull pot on the super trons?

Yes - they make humbucker sized TV Jones pickups. Not sure on the push/pull options with them, but I would assume you could do it and have decent results with the hotter TV Jones pickups.

Well that's the thing. I'm not putting humbucker sized ones in. They don't make the one I want in humbucker size. I was just wondering how much chopping and drilling would be involved.

You'd have to find some sort of mounting ring as I believe the TV Jones pickups are smaller in size than a standard humbucker.

Not sure if that will work, but it's in the direction I'd suggest.

Wish I could help with the tech talk but I'm just commenting to encourage you to make the change. Great idea. I have an FMT also with a Pearly Gates in the bridge. I love how it sounds but I'm interested in what you're going to do. Billy Gibbons has been using them in some of his guitars and they sound great. Good luck.

Yeah, I've got those duncans and they're definetly solid it's just that's a pretty standard pickup config that everyone has. It's also very common in that guitar. I love TV jones pickups. I currently have a set in two other instruments I own but I don't have the supertron bridge sound. I think these pickups will get me to play that guitar some more because right now it's just collecting dust.

One suggestion - what about the Dimarzio EJ set? It's supposed to be somewhat of a blend of humbucker and Filtertron tones. It's humbucker sized too.
That might be a last effort - but still a suggestion.

Funny you should mention that. I have that very pickup in the neck position of an ibanez guitar I have. Great sounding pickup but it's miles away from the authentic filter tron sound. I did some measurements and it looks like they should pretty much just drop in with new mounting rings. Might have to drill new holes for the rings but that's about it.

Yeah - I wouldn't think it'd be too tricky. Just get the mounting rings in and you'll be set.
