TheZ May 4th, 2010, 06:52 PM I decided by asking myself: "Which one would I take if I could have any of them?" and made my choice based on that. Everyone did such great work and it was very hard to decide.
Dep May 4th, 2010, 08:26 PM So hard to choose, so many great builds!

jimd May 4th, 2010, 08:47 PM It was really tough to pick my winners. I would be happy to own any of them. Congratulations to all of you. One of these days I hope my skills are good enough and I have the guts to enter. I would also need to work on my time management. I am amazed at the quality of these things in the time allotted.

TDPRI May 4th, 2010, 11:39 PM Wow, Alamo, that's great! Thanks so much!!
tuuur May 5th, 2010, 03:22 AM It's really hard to choose! I'll browse the threads and think about it some time.
alias23k May 5th, 2010, 06:06 AM It's really hard to choose! I'll browse the threads and think about it some time.
I feel the same Tuur, alot of nice ones.
and look, i got an "overall" vote WooHoo! Thanks whoever you are!
neocaster May 5th, 2010, 11:40 AM Thanks to y'all. I hope you guys had as much fun building as I did watching.
oigun May 5th, 2010, 12:42 PM Thanks to y'all. I hope you guys had as much fun building as I did watching.
We sure did. Thanks to all!!
McVenco May 5th, 2010, 02:14 PM I was thinking about entering this year, but I guessk it's good that I didn't, since with my very little spare time and mediocre skills I couldn't have even come close to the one that gets the least votes...
(note that I'm not saying "the worst" or "the least best" since I think they're all masterpieces)
I hope I'll be competing in the 2011 contest
J Syrja May 6th, 2010, 02:51 AM Well... while I didn't expect to win... at this point I am wondering what I did wrong that almost no one likes...
Your build is still an incredible build. I wouldn't let it bother me.
I'm just not a sparkle guy.
tuuur May 6th, 2010, 04:18 AM Well... while I didn't expect to win... at this point I am wondering what I did wrong that almost no one likes...
Maybe it' the sparkle? That's not everybody's taste. I for one liked your build a lot, but the sparkle's not for me.
Me, I'm amazed that 3 people voted for the Sidetablecaster... thanks, whoever you are!
Johnston May 6th, 2010, 05:50 AM Me, I'm amazed that 3 people voted for the Sidetablecaster... thanks, whoever you are!
The sidetablecaster is great. The whole oh bugger!!! it's chipboard ah well lets carry on and sort it out later is right up my street, major plus it also sounded decent at the end too.

KennyH May 6th, 2010, 07:07 AM I'm all voted out today!
Sorry Mike, sparkles aren't really my bag, the wife loves them though so I'll probably have to do one one day. If it's any consolation whisky doesn't seem to be anymore popular, oddly.
Hope everyone had as much fun as I did building, and are as proud of their creations as I am, win or no win!

I want a tele that smells like whiskey!

XinTX May 6th, 2010, 10:13 AM Well... while I didn't expect to win... at this point I am wondering what I did wrong that almost no one likes...
I like all of them. Hardest part is choosing just one. And, like others, sparkles aren't at the top of my favorites list. There's not a one of them I wouldn't be proud to own or have built myself (had I the skills of the builders here who finished).
I started, but several screw-ups (and work/life getting in the way) meant there was no way I'd finish. So I just enjoyed by watching. Anyone who finished gets major props. And to finish with the fine sampling of instruments we see here (including yours) all the more so. Given my own skills, I'd have been thrilled just to complete it. Not sure I'd have gotten one vote unless I voted for myself.
Maricopa May 6th, 2010, 10:14 AM I want a tele that smells like whiskey!
Then send one of yours to me for a couple months....
Mike don't sweat it, who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of TDPRI voters.
barkley May 6th, 2010, 10:48 AM To all the people who get few votes: Dont worry! everyone loves your teles, this is just a hard call to make. I dare say that if anyone saw it in another thread they'd be all like "oohh" and "ahh" . Personally, in all three categories I voted for the least 'normal' tele. I just was impressed by something different. (last time i check all the guitars i voted for were coming first in their own category)
barkley May 6th, 2010, 10:53 AM Im suprised. Only 227 voters so far!!! Where is everyone?!
bluebilly May 6th, 2010, 11:39 AM It's amazing to me what some of ya'll could pull off with such basic tooling. It was fun to be involved in, see ya next year. Great job!
Leigh May 6th, 2010, 11:50 AM Well I think its great Mike. When you look through all the other entries and the quality they are built its hard to vote on one. It probably doesn't help that they are all so completely different, if it was only one or two that stood out the voting would be much easier I think.
I must admit looking at what we're up against I'm really suprised the Plastercaster has some votes. Thank you!
And thanks Alamo for the pictures and you tube
guitarbuilder May 6th, 2010, 12:08 PM Well... while I didn't expect to win... at this point I am wondering what I did wrong that almost no one likes...
I didn't even vote for myself Mike! I just went throught and found what I thought to be the most creative, best looking, and what I thought was the best one. It's hard to just vote for one in each category. There were plusses and minuses to each one of them in my opinion. Don't take it personally, at least you got votes...LOL. Best repeat ( 2nd year for doing it) performance goes to you.
KennyH May 6th, 2010, 12:25 PM I agree with Leigh, it's just too hard to pick one out of 21 great guitars.
Fatcaster, that answer is just too girly, real men don't worry about colours that don't match, ffs!
XinTX May 6th, 2010, 01:01 PM Im suprised. Only 227 voters so far!!! Where is everyone?!
Probably sniffing their guitars to see if they smell like whiskey............
samato May 6th, 2010, 06:31 PM Is there any way to add more pics of each guitar to the top of this thread? I'd like to vote but I need to see more detail and it will take me a while to look up all the threads and find the pics.
jimdkc May 6th, 2010, 11:26 PM All I know is that it was agonizing trying to decide on just 3 guitars to vote for!
Jim
TheZ May 7th, 2010, 01:19 AM While it may not make up for it in the standings, I love the "El Rey de Cobre." It has a vibe that just makes me think "desert." To me that guitar would look great against a desert backdrop (among many others!). And for the record, I would love to own a guitar like that.
CJFearn May 7th, 2010, 05:26 AM Big Mike - I love your guitar and I plan on building one like it! Unfortunately I only had one vote!!!
Everyone Else - there isn't one guitar here that I wouldn't be proud to own! You guys are all really really good!!!
I think a large part of the problem is that it's impossible to have a contest that is fair to everyone. For anyone interested there's an article in last week's New Scientist on why this contest, and any other where something is voted on, will always be unfair. It has nothing to do with the TDPRI guys (they're doing a great job!!!) but with math and logic. They show that even the best minds in the world haven't come up with a better answer than what we have here. And if the best minds in the world can't do it how are we, as mere mortals, going to any better?

(For me everyone is a winner)
barkley May 7th, 2010, 06:52 AM Hmmm, a more elaborate system of voting would be if we gave a vote to all the guitars in order of our favourite, eg 21 points to our favs, 20 to the next etc until we end up at 1 point to our least fav. That way everyone would have huge amounts of points and be happy. We would also get to vote for more than just three guitars. TDPRI has the time and energy to set up and count a voting system like that right? Right??
barkley May 7th, 2010, 06:59 AM Poor 'Roll the dice'...

True. So if there are any of you builders who are 'ashamed' that they didn't get enough votes, you're welcome to send the offending instruments to me and I'll hide them from your view for all time. Just a service I offer. No need to thank me.

Oh ok..... but you'll have to cover postage costs. I think its about £500 from the UK to Texas
Bluej58 May 7th, 2010, 07:30 PM I like the way the "Iron Chef" does it with three categories rated 1 trough 10, I think.
That way everyone has the possibility of getting the recognition they deserve, even if they don't place.
It was hard to choose and some guys really got burned by being a close second.
Thank you to all the contestants, It's hard enough building a guitar from scratch for $210.00 let alone documenting it.
I learned a lot and will be referring back to and passing on the information from these builds for a long time.
