OK, it's done. Two months of hard labor and 21 finished. Congrats to ALL!

Sometime tomorrow I'll put up the voting threads.

Good luck all.
Paul
PS. Note to self: next time end the contest at Midnight EASTERN time. So I don't have to stay up to midnight MY time.

I just wanted to say a big "THANKS!!!" to you for doing all this! As far as I'm concerned you're the real winner because you made it all possible for the rest of us!

I haven't had this much fun in years! Go Paul!:grin::grin:

+1 and a big thanks to everyone else for taking part, it would have been a bit dull without you all.

This has been a lot of fun.

There's not one guitar here I wouldn't be proud to own. Voting is going to be hard.

Edit:
Good luck everyone!!

I feel like I'm a winner already for having built the guitar I did... which I would never have done to the end if it weren't for this contest. Thanks Paul, for making this possible and thanks all for the input and encouraging. It's been a lot of fun!

Totally agree with TUUUR. Mine wouldn't have even been STARTED let alone finished. I'm so glad I made it too. This has been a fun project, and it's going to be really tough to vote, since they all are beautiful instruments.

Well mine did get started but not finished. That's ok. I'll get back to it eventually. Congratulations to everyone who DID finish.

Voting will be hard - there's some very nice guitars out there now.

The grass is a foot tall, the bbq grill sits dormant, and I think the snow shovel is still propped up next to the side door, and I'm thinking about building another guitar?

It's a disease I tell ya.

Can't wait to do it all over again next year.

Already thinkin' bout next years challenge

That's good, but keep in mind, we are still fine tuning this contest and we'll be tinkering with the format for the next little while. I have some idea of making the challenge completely different every year -- but I'm not sure at this point if I'll do that or a variation on this year's themes.

My point is, don't make purchases all year based on this year's Challenge -- you could end up with a different challenge and lots of parts on your hands.

Same here. Didn't finish, but did manage to turn two templates and two blanks into kindling. Learning experience. Also gives big props to those that did finish. And voting will be hard.

I signed up to the forum mainly because someone posted about their build on another forum.

For me now half way through two builds it has totally blown away the way I look at building guitars. From thinking it took the right 'tonewoods' to looking at any slab of timber and thinking mmmmmm!!!!!

I only wished I had signed up a few weeks earlier, my bed headboard guitar could have been part of it !!!

Roll on next year and congrats and good luck to all that finished in time !!

I posted my pics with just minutes to spare and even had sound clips but the thread had closed when I went back to post them.

But, I did finish and that's what counts for me. I'm an strong starter but tend to be a slow finisher until I get that burst of "this has gone on too long" that suddenly gets me going on unfinished projects. The time constraint on this one really pushed me to not only finish, but to make sure it was one I would want to keep and play.

Thanks to all who took part and especially to those who made it possible.

Had I realized that Cinco de Mayo was so close to the deadline and known my Tele would end up red, I would have named it Fiestacaster

Peace,
Mark

I'm so glad this is over.
But it's worth it. I blame Scatter Lee, if it wasnt for his winning build from last year showing that you do need talent, but not a boat load of tools, just a filled in swimming pool's worth.

I'm still in shock at doing the neck. Even with a flaw here and there, I'm inpressed that with some time spent making the jigs, you can bash out a decent hunk of lumber.

congratulations to everyone that managed to produce some great work... before the deadline. unfortunately i could not finish mine, somewhere amidst all of my moving boxes are 3 springs and 6 screws ...sooo close but in the end my solder iron blistered fingers could not peel the packing tape from anymore boxes and i just gave up.

Guys! Thanks for keeping us by-standers entertained for these 2 months. Many thanks especially for those who posted lots of pictures and info on their build.

I also noticed that parts got offered by one contestant to another. I find that very cool.

Even though my build went south towards the end, I had a lot of fun! And "La Mentirita Especial" will rise again!

Voting is gonna be tough.... I have more favorites than I have votes!

Thanks for a great contest, everybody!

If anybody deserves it you do, but you know the problem? Your the "Bob Ross" of guitars. You make it look SOooooooooo easy! Look around, pickup this and that and PooF! You've made a guitar! I am in awe of the talent around here, and yours in particular. Good luck to all!

Thanks Dave but I prefer to think of myself as the Norm Abrams of guitars.
I just don't show the three times I had the binding come loose or the Ef'd up finish under the pickguard, etc. Next year I'll have to include all that stuff.
