Decimeter?

Is there an (affordable) device to give you accurate readings of sound levels? I mean separate from sound boards, like if you play in a garage or you just play in a bar with no sound op?

I find it somewhat difficult to get all my levels the same for all my pedals. I was thinking if there was a device that you could just set up at a certain point in the room, play and open chord through each pedal and set all the levels the same? Do they make that?

A simpler method might be a mic with a vu meter. A decibel meter (a decimetre is 10 centimetres) is difficult to see at a distance. You may already have the necessary equipment e.g. a laptop and a mic. Some of those hand-held digital recorders show levels and might be a more useful purchase.
