Random, free-floating G.A.S.

So just within the last couple of weeks I've been struck by the urge to own a Markbass Little Mark II (http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua=en&cat=1&vedi=69) (or III) and a Gallien-Kreuger Neo 112-II (http://www.gallien-krueger.com/products_neo_series.html). :neutral: Now, I have absolutely NO NEED for either of these items. I have a perfectly wonderful SWR and Avatar rig that I'm more than pleased with. Heck, I'm not even getting many bass gigs these days. :confused:

But there's just something about the IDEA of carrying a 6-lb. head and a 30-lb. cabinet into a gig. :!: Fortunately I'm pretty much broke, so I won't be buying anything anytime soon. But if I did have the money, it and I would soon be parted, and there would be even more stuff cluttering up the music room. <sigh> Never ends. --

You gotta quit eating week-old Easter eggs. The GAS will subside.

Chris, it's the very lack of gigs that causes my worst G.A.S. attacks!

I played the markbass egan combo with 15 inch speaker. Huge sound and amazing weight, have been thinking about it ever since, but cannot justify the £1000 tag for a once monthly gig... :sad:

I'm GASsing for an Acoustic 260 mini stack. Sounds surprisingly huge, way bigger than my SWR Workingman 10 I had some years ago. And it doesn't do a bad job as a guitar amp, too. A tele through one of those sounds massive. I haven't tested one with pedals, as I'm just not a big pedal (or small or medium :mrgreen:) user. The little sucker is light, 100 watts, and cute as heck.

Of course, I'm also GASsing for a bass, but extremely recalcitrant to spend the bucks on a high end one. Since I'm not gigging, I find it very difficult to justify 1300 for a new American Standard fender anything bass. The Affinity is more in my price range, unfortunately. Not to say there aren't nice A's out there, you just have to find them.

Used bass prices are shockingly high. With the shortage of bass players that every band and their brother complain about, how can there be enough demand to keep the supply of used basses low, and thus prices high? It just defies the expected results of the laws of economics. I blame fleecebay.

I've been carrying that 4 to 6 lb head and 30 lb cab thing for a year and a bit... that isn't gas... it's sensibility. In my case it's the GK MB2-500 and now the cab is a DIY. Earlier the cab was an Avatar SB112 with neo driver... that cab seems to go quite a lot deeper than the GK FWIW. Dave @ Avatar will sell you the neo drivers too... that might abate the GAS for a bit ...

I'm using a little rig like that (Eden WXT500 & Ampeg Portabass 1x12), and it is a real JOY to walk in with that rig, bass over shoulder, amp in one hand, cabinet in the other. I actually went out and got myself a bass gig just because it's so darn easy now.

hanging onto my WT-800 is sort of reverse gas... lessee fits into the pocket on my bass gig bag or lug a rack ... lug a rack or pay the rent... thank god my wife has a job anyway :mrgreen:
