schenkadere April 11th, 2010, 10:52 PM I have one and just love it...the clean channel isn't as nice as the Peavey solid state stuff, but the "ultra" channel is amazing...just awesome tube distortion...and with the pull gain pot it gets crazy!!!...in a good way!
I couldn't be happier with an amp...anyone else feel the same?
robt57 April 11th, 2010, 11:03 PM I had one, in fact just traded it off last week. I loved the amp, but I grabbed a 93 Fender super recently and decided to let the Bravo go.
I suggest a different speaker for sure, I had a Weber Sig 12B, and if you want cleaner and some headroom on the clean channel, a 12AT7 in place of the 12AX7 will clean up the 1st channel nice.
I also had a mod that replaced the slope resistor with a POT, so instead of a fixed value in the tone stack you could dial a range. This allowed the clean channel to sound a lot more Fender-eee, especially with the Weber Speaker.
Also, I used to use a Seymour Duncan Pickup booster / clean gain pedal with the 12AT7 and Weber and the amp got very loud and stayed fairly clean on the clean channel set up this way. sounded much louder clean this way.
Enjoy.
Heavy little suckers though, only 6-7 lb lighter than my 410 Super...
robt57 April 11th, 2010, 11:04 PM OH, put it up on a stool, it gets a little buried at floor level IMO.
tazzboy April 12th, 2010, 12:10 AM Just ask e-merlin what he thinks of his Peavey Bravo's
ce24 April 12th, 2010, 12:33 AM Yep..got one and love it...Carvin v-30 spkr change. plus I have a c-30. The Bravo rocks....there's a reason it's called a stack in a box.

onenotetom April 12th, 2010, 10:15 AM Love mine. I play clean close to 100% of the time with the bright switch on/in. Mine came with a Celestion V12-60 and the stock speaker in a box so do not know what it was like from the factory. My neighbor has a Super Reverb. Every time he plays on the Bravo he comments on how great it sounds.
Was just thinking this morning about changing the cabinet/covering to something a little more attractive than the truck bed lining it is sprayed with as the amp is a long term keeper for me.
robt57 April 12th, 2010, 10:55 AM My few complains have been, stock speakers bleah big time, that could be personal as I never met a Peavey guitar speaker I liked much. Weight, these are mucho heavy for a small/combo. And cab size for a 12" driver, I personally like the baffle for a 12 to have a LOT more real estate for the open tones I prefer. A good 10" might be a good plan with a ring to mod the hole smaller maybe. I finially settled with a Weber SIG 12B after many speakers, including a 12A150 which the Cab took a lot of the character out of IMO.
There are a lot of pluses, no least of which is US MADE! But I found that I could not stop trying to get it to sound different, and that ha got to tell yo something as far as what I am looking for. That does not mean it will be the case for all, but the Super I nabbed it got replaced with only weighs 6-7 lb more, and all I did to it is pop out 2 of the blues fram alnico 10 and substituted them for 2 Bassman RI P10R Jensens I had in another Cab. I have no plans or feel the super need anything, so better suited for my needs. I should say wants, because I am totally not doing anything as it pertains to playing out at this time.
No amp is perfect of course. ;) Less so me as a player, but at 50 I know what I want to sound like, not that the amp can do that alone or anything..
e-merlin April 12th, 2010, 11:25 PM OK, I have two, which I've had since 1993. They used to be my favorite amp until I discovered 6L6GC amps..
But, I still have my original two, I've had four at once, and at least six different ones.
So, the Peavey Bravo is a great amp.
My two Bravos.
Clean Bravo has a Fender/Eminence speaker, a 12AT7 in V3, and low gain JJ 12AX7s in V1and 2. Crank the Clean channel and you get some good SRV OD. Back off the volume and you've got a lot of good Tele tone. Switch over to the Ultra channel and you've got everything from Skynard to Judas Priest.
I'm still working out the OD Bravo. I've got a Sheffield 1200 speaker (5150) in there, and I'm working on tube selection.
Right now, I'm concentrating on my 5150 Combo, for which I've ordered some Weber speakers, and my Peavey Triumph 120, which I've retubed and is awaiting new quarters so I can crank the devil out of.
Trust me, I'll be doing some serious amp reviews in the future now that I'm no longer homeless.
Jakedog April 12th, 2010, 11:38 PM I had one of E-Merlin's old Bravos, bought off the classifieds here on the site.
Great amp for distortion tones. Unbelievably great. I used it on several sessions where I needed a really overdriven or distorted sound. It worked great, and didn't take up a lot of space. Paid for itself 5X over in no time flat with gigs and sessions.
I didn't end up keeping it though. It was VERY heavy for it's size, and even with multiple tube and speaker swaps, the dirt channel was always really cool, but I could never get the clean channel where I wanted it. It just wouldn't do what I was after. It was nice, just not "me".
I ended up selling it (for what I paid for it) to another local player who was just rabid to have it. He wanted it for it's "Marshall Stack in a little box" qualities, which it has a-plenty.
Awesome amps, and extremely reliable. I'd highly recommend them to anybody wanting a really tight, punchy, ass kicking dirt sound in a small package. They are amazing in that respect.
Chris S. April 13th, 2010, 12:00 AM Hey, I moved this thread over here because it seemed like a club in the making. Might as well have its own official designation. CS
HOBBSTER01 June 26th, 2010, 04:25 PM Bought one today.
e-merlin June 26th, 2010, 08:02 PM Bought one today.
And? You haven't stopped playing it to tell us how much you like it? Or you haven't stopped playing it because you're still tweaking and setting it for a tone you like?
HOBBSTER01 June 27th, 2010, 08:55 AM haven't even plugged it in.
I took it in on trade on the way to a show and was late to set up.
I plan on firing it up in just a few.
HOBBSTER01 June 27th, 2010, 09:10 AM Wow!
No.
Freakin' WOW!!!!!!!!!!
emisilly July 2nd, 2010, 01:11 AM I love mine. Am I only the only guy here who thinks the clean channel sounds great? In fact, that was the selling point for me (even though the drive channel is cool). I had a Emi Swamp Thang in mine but switched to an old Electro Harmonix speaker I had laying around that I think I like a little better. All JJ tubes in mine.
DADGAD August 23rd, 2010, 12:00 AM Member number please!
Rhino skin Bravo owner here. It's still pretty new so, I haven't developed the confidence to gig with it yet. Got it for $125 from a pawnshop. To my happy surprise, it has a pair of GE USA 6BQ5 output tubes and, on the downside, SOVTEK preamp tubes. Those were replace with two 5751's and a RCA 12AT7 driver.
Sweet Jesus!
Great Marshall tones and very woody with my Strat. Good clean tones!
e-merlin August 23rd, 2010, 12:14 AM I've got one tubed and speakered toward the clean side and one pushed the other way.
I usually use my "clean" Bravo on the Clean channel. It's my go-to amp on the Ultra channel when I want a rude, in-your-face tone. My "high gain" Bravo? I'm still coming to terms with it. I just put a Sheffield 1200 out of my 5150 Combo (which got the Weber 12A150W speakers). It's still a work in progress.
awichman August 29th, 2010, 03:37 PM I have a Peavey Bravo 112 that I bought when I thought I wanted to be a 'rock star'...used it a couple times and now decided to sell it. Any thoughts on pricing? It's in mint condition.

150 to 200 range on Seattle Craigslist.
e-merlin August 29th, 2010, 09:10 PM You should be able to hold out for $250. The biggest thing is, some people don't believe it's a tube amp 'til you pull the panel and show 'em.

Going to be holding out for a long time for 250.00 IMO.
I got offered a Dr Rhythm DR-880 that was a few weeks old for my Bravo and let her fly...
new2twang August 28th, 2011, 03:27 PM I really love my little bravo the more I play around with it, but I don't dig the speaker.
Anybody try to wedge an evm12L in there? Success? Results? Inquiring minds...
bassmanmike February 22nd, 2012, 07:49 PM I put in a vintage EVM 12L, I use the amp for lessons, so with that speaker I could even teach bass (at low volume). I didn't like the distortion sound with the EVM but in all honesty I never cranked it. I just put a , and I'm not kidding, a 16ohm EV SP12b (1st generation, copper colored) with the mid range wizzer left in and it sounds nice. You gotta watch your mid range but I was pleasantly surprised, it is very reactive to the EQ settings. I also put in some vintage 12ax7s I took out of an old Lowery organ and two 6P14P-EVs (Cyrillic: 6П14П-ЕВ)also known as "EL84M"s.

Gotta remember that on the Ultra channel, you're working with an active EQ section, as opposed to the passive EQ on the Clean channel.
