Peavey Delta Blues 1x15charlie chitlin April 9th, 2010, 11:19 AM Anybody? Faraldi April 9th, 2010, 11:25 AM Had an older one. I want it back. Been looking for a used model. IMO, a fantastic mid-sized tube combo. Very versatile. ggiles April 9th, 2010, 11:47 AM Only amp I own. Sound good at low volumes sounds better as it gets loud. Weighs a bit but not too bad to lug around a short distance. charlie chitlin April 9th, 2010, 12:26 PM I'm thinking that this amp is a SERIOUS sleeper. Still available for about $350 if you're patient. Rusrant April 9th, 2010, 04:14 PM I had one for awhile, recently sold it. It's a great amp, takes pedals well, decent OD channel. But out of 7 combo amps, something had to go! Papa Joe April 9th, 2010, 06:15 PM Mine is in Peavey Repair shop right now.I just got word that they'll start on it early next week.Really lookin' foward to getting it back. kidmo April 9th, 2010, 06:38 PM http://www.tdpri.com/forum/search.php?searchid=2175791 Papa Joe April 18th, 2010, 01:49 PM My DB will be here Tues from Peavey repair.Lookin forward to getting it.After the buying price and repair cost,it's about 1/2 the current street value. I just hope Fedex can find my house and not leave it on some one else's poarch. Telefone May 12th, 2010, 11:11 AM Got one off ebay for 400.00 back in Dec. Great amp revelator May 12th, 2010, 11:22 AM I have the 210 & LOVE IT!!! I've had tons of amps that cost way more but w/ a retube from JJ tubes its a seriousl great amp. Plus I dont have to worry a bunch about It getting stolen cause I got it for $275. I'd like to get it modded so that the foot switch is for reverb & trem cause I don't use the drive channel much Maradona86 May 12th, 2010, 11:41 AM I'm saving up for one as we speak. There's one in a local shop that's been sitting there for a while. We'll see................... If it's been sitting there for a while, I would try lowballing. Not everyone digs a big 15" and they may be glad to just move it. Maradona86 May 12th, 2010, 12:50 PM We're on the same wavelength on this one as I plan on going in there with a lowball cash offer..........waitin on the cash part though ; ) I had one of these around '96. I was a doofus (to put it mildly) to get rid of it. robt57 May 12th, 2010, 01:05 PM If it's been sitting there for a while, I would try lowballing. Not everyone digs a big 15" and they may be glad to just move it. Especially that particular 15" I think that is a love hate speaker [most peavey speaker I hate]. So only buy form an owner that's in hate mode for it. ;) Personally, I think a Start works better with a DB-15 than a Tele, the ones I hate plugged in anyway.. YMMV I had a 399.00 new old stock DB-15 I could have grabbed, and I may have if TN 9.75% tax was not part of the equation on top. But I would have stuck my Jenson NEO 15/150 before I turned it on back at my shop most probably. ;) I never met a Peavey speaker for guitar I liked, I have mixed them with other stuff with great result however. But this could just be me... I know a lot of folks like them fine... Papa Joe May 12th, 2010, 01:07 PM I'v had mine back from Peavey Repair for a couple of weeks now and it's the only amp I've used since then.A truely nice amp.Got less than $250 in it. franchelB May 12th, 2010, 10:28 PM I've had mine for 5 years now...and it's still running strong! It's sounds even better with JJ tubes in it!! I've thought about switching to the "old school" 15" Jensen speaker, but on the other hand, I'm more about "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". charlie chitlin May 14th, 2010, 09:44 PM I brought mine to rehearsal last night. Plugged in my old Dano with one pickup...I hurt my shoulder and the Dano is my lightest guitar. What a SMOKIN combination. I think that's my set-up for the next gig. Tommyboy May 14th, 2010, 10:18 PM I picked this one up down in Nashville earlier this year. jd1655 May 15th, 2010, 01:19 AM Just got one from a buddy who was unloading his mounds of equipment. Took it to a jam last night and had a blast playing through a Fulltone OSD pedal... She's great after its warmed up and with a little volume. I was playing with a blues rock band - works just fine in that situation. Still new to it though. Will have a more complete pinion with time. But first impression is that it is a great amp, especially considering the sticker price Fotno May 15th, 2010, 11:47 AM I've got one I bought new years ago, and I like it. For the money it was and is a decent amp. Not that crazy about the Blue Marvel speaker, and the stock tubes sucked, but a few dollars spent here and there can make huge difference. Best money I spent on it was a JAN Phillips 12AX7 in the V1 position. Made a ton of difference. robt57 May 15th, 2010, 12:46 PM I've got one I bought new years ago, and I like it. I've also noticed that there is a big difference felt when sitting on an amp with a 15. The low notes really cause some movement! robt57 May 15th, 2010, 03:36 PM Anyone have comments on how a Jensen NEO 15/150 sounds in a DB-115 ? clayfeat June 2nd, 2010, 09:01 AM Anyone use a Fulldrive 2 with their DB 15? androo June 3rd, 2010, 10:29 AM Add me in. I've owned mine since 1999. I love it! Seems I'm luckier than some....I've managed to hold on to mine, even though I've tried selling it 3 times! Each time...no can do. Must mean it belongs with me ;) Lots of guitars/pickups work well with this 15"...I've got to say I pretty much like em all. The one I like the least with this amp is a Strat. I love the Tele, this thing loves P-90's for jazz, and HB's in a semi are the bees knees, IMO. I never bothered swapping out the speaker, although I've thought about it plenty. 15's are an expensive upgrade for something that most certainly does the job pretty darn well. The only reason I don't gig this one all that often is that my Princeton Reverb is way lighter. I don't use too many pedals these days...but I do think the on board OD can do the job in a pinch, especially if you reverse the pre/postknobs...try cranking up the pre and then just cracking open the post...or something like that? I don't have the amp in front of me, but try reversing what you would normally do...see if anyone likes that better for the OD. Anyway, I use this amp for clean. Works real well. droo Big_Bend July 3rd, 2010, 07:28 PM My friend just picked up a sweet Delta Blues.. Now its all he has been playing since. What an amp!! It sounds incredible plugged straight in, and it also takes pedals very well. I really want one now too!! This amp needs more love, definitely a sleeper. Holy cow, I never knew Peavey could sound so good. I have a coworker friend who also picked up a PDB15 at a pawn shop and he too says its a wonderful amp. It weighs less than a Twin or Super which is nice. Highly recommended - the only amp with a 15" speaker thats done right. IamBlue July 9th, 2010, 02:42 AM Does anyone have or ever played thru the 2x10 Delta Blues ? Always hear about the 15 but I was curious about the other model. Maradona86 July 9th, 2010, 06:03 PM I have a bead on a NIB 07 1 15 DB and I'm on the fence about joining the club (see post on Amp Central Station for backstory) so what are the features/characteristics that have really sold you on this amp. Time for you guys to gush about your DB's....Thanks! Hiker July 9th, 2010, 06:27 PM Anybody have a comment about how a 210 (http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/squawk-box/24202-anyone-else-using-peavey-delta-blues-210-a.html) model cuts through in a band setting? tombob July 9th, 2010, 08:24 PM I love mine, I put in a JBL D-130 and it sound(ed) fantastic. I quit a few months ago and it took me awhile to get the nerve to tear into a PCB amp, I'm waiting on parts now. One of the plate voltage resistors burned up. I should be a simple fix. Maradona86 July 12th, 2010, 11:26 AM SOoooooooo........What makes this amp "all that" for you guys? I'm curious to hear its pros from a players perspective. birv2 September 18th, 2010, 02:52 PM Howdy all. I joined the club a few weeks ago but haven't officially "registered" here yet. I got a 94 DB115 off ebay. Pretty sure it came with the original tubes and speaker, though neither had any markings left. Just retubed it with JJ's -- Eddie at Eurotubes suggested the High Gain option. I play blues with teles mainly, usually no pedals or picks. Just put in the new tubes this afternoon, and what a difference! The amp sprang to life. It's quieter but louder, and I have to say I really like the boost, which I wasn't crazy about before. I'll have to experiment with the OD channel, but it certainly sounds better than it did. I'm really loving it, though my Pro Jr will remain my grab-and-go amp, since the DB is 50 pounds. Also just ordered the tube guard off ebay, since those exposed tubes make me nervous. Has anyone put casters on theirs? vwfreak September 19th, 2010, 01:01 PM Saw these at NAMM a while back. Thought the concept/look was great. Ended up with a Victoria Regal recently because I liked the combo speaker size. The 1x15 makes it for me, and I imagine the Peavey sounds just as big. bottleneck November 8th, 2010, 04:13 AM My (older) Delta Blues came with a 15" Celestion and a friend fitted a full set of '60s vintage Aussie made valves, too. Reverb was squealing, so he (somehow!) wax potted the ends of the reverb tank and it is now a tone monster. Bass response is huge, but twangs like crazy, too. Gobbles up pedals and strips paint off the walls at any volume above 4. telekaster1999 February 5th, 2011, 01:37 PM just joined the club http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/pp285/telekaster1999/DSCN0566.jpg dragonfly66 February 5th, 2011, 01:53 PM Got mine late last year used from Guitar Center for $400. It came with JJ tubes. I love it! It is one of my favorite amps. Of all of the amps I own my favorite three are the Delta Blues 115, the Fender '65 Princeton RI, and the VOX AC15C1. Doc Leon February 6th, 2011, 06:36 PM dragonfly66, I've got a new Delta Blues that I'm trying out for a few days. It sounds really good with my tele, but am also interested in the AC15C1. How do the two amps compare for headroom/tone? Angiodan February 10th, 2011, 01:03 PM Hi Guys , I've had mine for quite some time now. Still has the stock tubes and sounds pretty good to me with my older Tokai Strat and the American Dlx Tele. I am curious though what change do you hear when you switch to JJ's ? Iv'e also had a little trouble finding the sweet spot with the Gibson Cs356 (57 humbuckers) any suggestions ? or does this amp just like single coils? Thanks, Dan yangounet March 10th, 2011, 03:31 AM I join this club. Very happy with this 15' blue marvel. Changed the valves some time ago. Tremendous sound. 15' speaker makes a difference to me. deep, much presence. I use a vox night train home and the DB with the group. Not much effects. Reverb is good, tremolo sometimes useful. For blues and 70's Rock, its a very good choice. birv2 March 10th, 2011, 09:17 AM Welcome to the club, Yangounet! I'm curious what others think of the stock speaker. My Pro Jr with a Ragin Cajun sounds way louder than the DB, so I'm wondering if a speaker change would help. blowtorch March 10th, 2011, 11:28 AM I've got a Peavey "Blues Classic" 1X15, I guess it's pretty much the same amp. Wyzsard March 10th, 2011, 01:59 PM I'm thinking that this amp is a SERIOUS sleeper. Still available for about $350 if you're patient. +1 These were totally off my radar..... until I plugged into a DB 210. These amps work so well for my needs, I'm thinking of getting a second one. Wyzsard March 10th, 2011, 02:00 PM I've got a Peavey "Blues Classic" 1X15, I guess it's pretty much the same amp. Same minus the tremolo I think. yangounet March 12th, 2011, 03:27 AM everything great in this amp. sound, reverb, tremolo, equalisation. The 15' speaker is huge. dragonfly66 March 27th, 2011, 03:14 AM dragonfly66, I've got a new Delta Blues that I'm trying out for a few days. It sounds really good with my tele, but am also interested in the AC15C1. How do the two amps compare for headroom/tone? Very late response, but the Delta Blues is going to have more headroom because it is a higher watt amp. In my own experience the Delta Blues is much louder than my AC15. PA Woody April 9th, 2011, 11:36 AM I wasn't really in the market for one, but it came up on CL for $285 with a custom made cover. It needed retubed but other than that it's in very good condition. That 15" speaker moves some serious air. Really glad I pulled the trigger on this one. Jack Knife April 9th, 2011, 11:41 AM I've got a Peavey "Blues Classic" 1X15, I guess it's pretty much the same amp. That's a Classic 50 in 1x15 combo format. The Peavey Classic series amps can do anything. I love them. Their distinctive sound used to be cool but "neither here nor there" in the realm of classic amps. They didn't sound like Marshall, Fender or Vox. Now they've been around so long that they have the "Peavey Classic" sound. craigs63 April 30th, 2011, 09:13 PM I've had my DB for years, I just noticed this group (I'm on the Yahoo mailing list as well). I have only used mine in the bedroom, it's probably too much amp for my needs? I probably need a 1/2 watt amp! Anyway, I'm glad I have it (in case a band/gig situation comes along). Does anyone play it with that boost button engaged/pushed in? Just curious, I almost never do. birv2 April 30th, 2011, 10:43 PM I've had my DB for years, I just noticed this group (I'm on the Yahoo mailing list as well). Andoni July 10th, 2011, 05:27 AM Yep awesome amp I have the 1x15 and play my Les paul (stock Burst Bucker Pro's) with the bass dialed back, sounds sweet. AlexCarlson November 14th, 2011, 12:17 PM I run my '64 Harmony Rocket H59 through a DB115 with JJs and Sovteks , and the original Blue Marvel. Between the Harmony and the 15" speaker, I run with the bass dialed all the way back and it's still fat city. I love it. Just a big round tone. I run my Harmony through a cheap delay box for slap back, and a Route66 drive/compressor and Dano trem pedal - both of which I could easily live without, but they make life a little easier during a show. Couple questions: Anybody know where to get replacement badges for the front of the amp? Somebody removed mine, and I have pride in my Peavey, so I'd like it to be labeled properly. I stumbled on a site a while ago for Peavey Classic mods that carried over to DB's, but I'm not having any luck finding it again. I'd like to mess with the drive channel on my amp to see if I can dial it in where I like it. Anybody have the Classic mods page? AlexCarlson November 14th, 2011, 12:19 PM One more question, actually. With my usual stage setup (6-7 piece country band, it gets tight) I usually have my amp nestled next to the kick drum, and occasionally the drummer will say he's getting too much of me through the back of my amp. (I know, he's crazy.) I was thinking about adding a back panel to help him out. What effect would putting maybe a 3/4 panel on the back of this amp have on the overall tone? Beyond this page/site, are there any other good tips for improving the OD channel on the DB115? jmiles November 16th, 2011, 11:32 AM I got mine in a trade with Neil Zaza. Was looking for an amp with a 15 for use with my Baritone Strat. I was disappointed, as it didn't handle the low freqs well. The transformers were pretty small. Put in heavy iron. A big Hammond PT, and a Dr. Z OT. Wow! NOS tubes, and an early 60's Jensen 15. WOW! Thing is killer now for baritone. Even used it in the studio for pedal steel. Very sweet. The original trannies worked very nicely for regular 6-string, and the amp did sound great. Just couldn't handle the voltage/current draw of the low baritone. My favorite Peavey amp. Had a Vegas for steel work, and hated it. I'm back to a split Twin with a 15 JBL. LGOberean November 19th, 2011, 12:57 PM All talk and no tones to this point in this thread. Let's change that. Oval logo http://www.peavey.com/assets/images/large/00327810_10523.jpg Rectangular logo http://www.jmetube.com/images/delta1.JPG I got the pic of the one with the Oval logo off of Peavey's website, so I am assuming that this is the latest incarnation of the model, and that those with the Rectangular one are older. Is this a safe assumption? To my knowledge, both are MiM (Made in Mississippi), correct? Are there any differences other than this obvious cosmetic difference? Speakers, perhaps? birv2 November 23rd, 2011, 01:51 PM The stock speaker is just fine. This amp is a killer 30 watts of heaven. Both channels are excellent. Both channels are excellent. I have seen all of the mods for the Classic 30 and the Delta Blues / Same amp + Tremelo on the DB. I build and repair them. This amp needs no mods whatsoever. If you atsrt doing mods to the DB your going to loose the flavor of what the amp is. This amp needs nothing but a good guitar player. This amp is real Magic as it comes stock* Yup. This amp is just plain ole' good. Real good. Doesn't need anything else. I did, however, swap the reverb tank for one with an extra spring (3 instead of the stock 2)...but that was just for my own reverb tastes. No-Name January 5th, 2012, 11:18 PM I like mine, especially with my bright guitars. sounds best with my Strat, Tele and Gretsch Duo Jet. Blues on a Duo Jet? HECK YEAH! telekaster1999 January 5th, 2012, 11:21 PM just joined the club http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/pp285/telekaster1999/DSCN0566.jpg sold it too a guy in California. just didnt do It for me. craigs63 January 7th, 2012, 12:03 PM The Peavey Delta Blues also has a Yahoo Group: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/deltablues/ Wally January 19th, 2012, 06:37 PM Okay, Peavey amps are not my strong suit. I like what this 2001 Delta Blues 1X15 does sonically in some ways, but I have no idea what it is worth. Dead mint with footswitch AND the thick brown vinyl cover with the Peavey logo stitched into it. ORiginal EMinence 15" versus the Made in China BLue Marvel in the new ones. USA Accutronics reverb tnk versus the Made in ASia unit in the new ones. What is the consensus on what one of these is worth? My thought is $350 minimum to 450 max in this condition with the cover and switch.....but I don't know the market on these amps. paul74 January 20th, 2012, 07:50 AM Until recently I used a DB 15 as my main amp. Have upgraded to a Mesa Blue Angel which has a lot more refinement in general tone and reverb but am keeping the DB as it is a great amp for the money. I play a strat mainly and it gives a great open sound, a little ice pick sometimes but very usable - just don't stand right in front of it! I bought my DB for £200 (about $300) but wouldn't sell for less than 400 - nothing else comes close for the money. Wally January 20th, 2012, 12:05 PM So....Paul has pushed it to $600 USD in his personal assesment, if I am understanding the '4'' as pounds, right? Paul, was that an older Delta Blues with Made in USA speaker and tank...or the later DB? Hiker January 20th, 2012, 12:07 PM Single huge speaker, or two big speakers? Decisions, decisions... Wally January 20th, 2012, 02:22 PM Single huge speaker, or two big speakers? Decisions, decisions... Both opitions have validity, ime. SRV was fond of those 1X15" Vibroverbs. B.B. King's tone on "Live at The Regal" is his best, imho....and there is a 1X15" Tweed Pro sitting there on the front of the stage. gearjunkie January 21st, 2012, 05:11 PM I play primarily Country with both a 6120 Gretsch and soon to be a MIJ Tel once this project guitar is complete..I have always loved the clean tones of Fenders for my style of playing and musical genre, but my buddy bought a PDB 115 and once I played it, I traded my 1 year old Fender Hot Rod Deluxe straight up with a fellow that had this Peavey..although the Blue Marvel could use a swap out, the big 15" speaker barks out the bottom end notes like no 12" speaker i've played to date..I can't say enough good about these amps and for the money, keep your eyes open for a good used one and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with it.. Wileyone January 21st, 2012, 05:26 PM If you can find an old SRO they sound amazing in the DB 115 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/Scotty111/IMG_0700JPG1-1.jpg LiveAtLeeds January 21st, 2012, 05:32 PM Single huge speaker, or two big speakers? Decisions, decisions... What about a DB and a 1x15 cab? Two huge speakers! gearjunkie January 21st, 2012, 07:12 PM That old Electrovoice looks like it has a magnet in her Wileyone..Bet it sounds really sweet ...too bad they don't produce quality like they did when that speaker was built.. paul74 January 22nd, 2012, 11:22 AM So....Paul has pushed it to $600 USD in his personal assesment, if I am understanding the '4'' as pounds, right? Paul, was that an older Delta Blues with Made in USA speaker and tank...or the later DB? 2003 Model, but not sure what that makes it. Prices are relative to country - a new DB costs approx $1000 in the UK due to shipping, distribution and import duties, so I wouldn't be able to get a different but comparable (in my view) amp for less than £400, prob more like £550. In the UK a Silverface Fender Super or Deluxe will cost approx $1500 if you can find one. OTOH a Marshall will be much cheaper than in the States. gearjunkie January 22nd, 2012, 09:13 PM Well Fellow Delta Blues Members: I had to let ya'll know that we played a Country venue this afternoon..I took my Gretsch 6120 flame maple nashville along for the show, and had the 115 delta blues sitting right behind me up on a chair to get the sound up off the stage, and I was so proud of the tone from that amp that it sure made me smile a few times during my leads...One of the other lead players who has played for the likes of Barbara Mandrell, Stompin Tom Connors etc etc, came up to me afterwards as we were packing up the gear and looked at the amp and said, ohh wow, thats a Peavey, man does that ever sound some nice....that guy who made the commnet is a very good guitar player whom I was so proud to be on the same stage with yet it also made me proud to have him say that...It is a bone stock amp other than a 5751 I stuck in V1 for a slight cut in gain... I also left the foot switch home because half the time when it's on the floor because i'm so used to having a light telling me which channel I'm on with other amps but there's none with this one, I thought ta heck with you, I'll leave you home so there's no confusion, and I just played it through my boss TU-3 inline and thats it...clean as I could get it....Very Sweet little amp that filled the hall at 1/2 volume and less than 1/2 on my gretsch...Anyone sitting on the fence not knowing whether they want one or not, go get it, you won't be disappointed.... :) my 2 cents Gary Mitchell February 18th, 2012, 06:15 PM I am not a member of your club yet, I use to have a DB210 I made in to a 112 with a Celestion Vintage 30. Somebody offer me money I could not resist for it. I recently purchase a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue, and if you have look at my other thread. I have maybe played 10hrs out of the 5mo Ive own it. Got it fix came back broke again, I can't wait Guitar Center told me when it gets fix again bring it in and I can get rid of it. I am going to latch on to the first DB115 I see and ain't letting go. My other DB got beat to death and always played, I had it mybe 5yrs, still had the same tubes. I gig with it, then played in church with it. Out side in 108 Texas sun, where we had to kick dogs and chickens off the stage. I can't wait. feralcat1 March 28th, 2012, 11:17 AM Loved both channels in mine... a treble deflector (a cd tpaed to the center of the grill infront of the speaker) sweetened the sound --simple, cheap mod that made a huge difference... I got an early model for $250 at a pawn shop in 2006...put about 1500 hours of playing time on it in about 6 years and it finally gave its last breath 6 months ago when something burned inside and took some other components with it....no fault of the amp --I think I have gotten my $'s worth.... my amp guy is still sorting out the bad pieces from the good...said it may not be worth the trouble... I miss the snarl... it may just be a 15 in speaker cab now. AlexCarlson March 30th, 2012, 03:07 PM I'd really like to stick some Fender style tilt-back legs onto my PDB115. Anybody done this? Seems pretty straightforward, unless I need to use one set of legs rather than another to avoid screwing into the chassis or something. Any insight would be appreciated. mitchfit April 1st, 2012, 03:52 PM I'd really like to stick some Fender style tilt-back legs onto my PDB115. Anybody done this? It ROCKS! The sound between the multiple speakers creates an amazingly full and rich tone. Awesome amp right there! AlexCarlson October 3rd, 2012, 11:51 PM Hey TDPRI PDBers - this is a bit of a long shot, I realize, but I'm looking for a busted up PDB 1x15 for a project. Specifically I just need an early cabinet and amp chassis - that's it. I'm thinking about building a custom cab for mine, and I'd rather not tear it down for the duration of the project. Any leads you may have would be more than welcome. Reply to this thread or shoot me a PM. bigboyneverleft November 7th, 2012, 12:55 PM Guys question. Recently I got wind in my DB. it goes stronger and weaker to dissapearance. Wind is rhe best description to the sound ig generates. I got a big pop when turning off and now it is followed by some wind as well. Any ideas? Teletubbi April 30th, 2013, 12:42 AM I would like to have one some day so I'm on Peaveys site and I download an owners manual. The page with recommended settings is interesting. Any of you owners notice this? robt57 April 30th, 2013, 01:12 AM I had a 115DB that was not getting used much. So the EV15L got borrowed out of it. [never to be seen again] Needed to use it one day and stuck a 300 Watt PA Peavey 15 in it. It actually sounded excellent. Not expected at all. |
