How to get a keef overdrive/crunchtone with with my telecaster?

Which pedal would you recommend?

I would recommend you get yourself a tweed champ or deluxe.

If you are talking about Satisfactions that was done with Mastero Fuzz box. Pretty much now Keith get's his distortion from his fender tweed amps.

I get Honky Tonk/ Brown Sugar with a cranked (MV) Vox style amp fed by a tele with SD5-2s, the rest is technique, and tuning to open G, it ain't rocket science.

Boss SD-1 works pretty well for me. Although mine has the Monte Allums GT mod, I use it in the stock SD-1 setting.

Keith Richards OD/crunch tone?

There was a long thread about this a little while ago and his "Ya-Yas" tone versus his non "Ya-Yas" tone.

But darn if the TDPRI won't let me search for it. :?:

I'd recommend the Fulltone OCD or Zvex Distortron. Both are made to sound like cranked tube amps and pull it off pretty well!

I think that Keith gooses the front end of his Tweed Twins with a Fulltone tube Tape Echo - i.e he uses it as a preamp to crank up the input gain on those suckers.
I've seen footage of a view from behind his amps and the Fulltone is tucked away in the back of one of his combo's.

Also, the Les Lius pedal is supposed to get you Tweed Tone in a box.

Yes, Tweed sounds!

For a pedal that's not too spendy:

MI Audio Blues Pro.

Does more than this, also. Actually pretty versatile. But yeah, it's really good at Tweed like Tones.

I own both the SFT and the Zia drive. Both are very good pedals. The SFT will get you 1971-1972 Ampeg tones. it is quite cool. The Zia will get you many different places with a general Keith tone being one of them.

at about 3:20 he plays a telecaster on the tweed mode and some Stones riff, it sounds really good..

Definitely +1 on the Les Lius.

Great pedal for that cranked tweed tone. I got one a few months ago and it works great for me.

+1. I remember it too. I'd say a good Fender amp driven into overdrive with a TS should do it!

His live sound recently has a bit more saturation on the amp/guitar...I still like the recorded studio sounds from the late 60's best of all..lots of different amps and guitars, but almost all pretty straight forward guitar-cord-amp-mic

Well I know Keith used between 1968 to 1974 Ampeg SVT and V4 and the 1980's Mesa Boogies.

I know also too the Sympathy for the Devil movie is all Vox's

to me keith and ron are mostly guitar ino cranked tube amps, there's a lot of voodoo about which they use, but I think any good tube amp can get you there. a big part of of the sonic picture is hard strummings and I'd bet keith uses big strings. and the sheer volume is also a factor, I doubt that kind of sound can be made at bedroom levels.
To approximate that sound I'd get a tube amp thaht fits the size of the venues you are playing and crank it up. maybe a boost can help. if you have to use stompboxes I'd try to find the most dynamic one - lately i tried the z.vex box of rock and thought that was really good in that respect. still it needs a bit of volume to sound realistic and avoid that kind of mickey mouse impression you'll always get when you play wild sounds at soft volumes ...

I'd bet keith uses big strings...

Ernie Ball Keith Richards Special Set 011, 015, 018p, 030, 042 for open G, and EB 011's for 6 string guitars.

I'd expected even bigger, but 11s are kind of still easy to play AND strong enough for hard rhythm playing. for me the archetypical stones sound is here galore:

not much about dirt boxes or something, just cranked amps IMHO. I like Ronnies stinging sound with the strat, too.
