Don Mare Joel Foy

Anyone play this set of Don's? I just bought a Squier CV and wanna put some brighter, lower wound pickups with a country tone. I know the Hayrides are the obvious choice, but I love the brass neck PU cover, and am intrigued by the Foys.

I have a set,I remember reading a post a while back where Don mentioned that his favorite tones where with pickups around 6.k,so I asked for a donocaster with that spec.
I have no idea who Joel Foy is so I blew right by this set on his site.
To make a long story short this is what he sent me as it is exactly 6.k and I think you will be more than happy with these.
The neck pickup is very open sounding despite the cover and made my ash/maple tele sound like a warm alder/rosewood strat.
The bridge is fantastic,not much in the way of broadcaster territory and not the 60's bakersfield tone either,to my ears I hear a Vince Gill '53 tele tone without all that compression(his upper mids still cut through despite the squashyness).The tone of the bridge pickup also reminds me of G.E smiths tele tone when he was the bandleader on S.N.L years back.

The 4709's/Joel Foy set is awesome. My favorite for classic tele twang. Also the most useable tele neck pickup I have ever had.

Yeah, I have the brass covered DonOcaster neck and set, and it is easily my fave neck pup as well. Just a magical tool! That is why I was leaning toward the Foy's. Well I should know next week as I bought a set of Foy's today from Brad above. My only concern is they may be too similar to the DonOcaster set I have. I really do want a bright, chimey super clean country sound so I may still spring for the Hayrides, and then swap from time to time!
Anyone have experience with the Foy's and the DonOcasters? Compare/contrast? Don?

Great choice on the Foy's I think you will be more than happy.I too was interested in the hayrides but have found some of my favorite players regardless of music style all seemed to play '53-early'54 tele's.
From What I understand the hayrides are more of a 60's type tone,good luck.K
