Saddle Adjustment

I'm almost 100% finished with my Double-Bound Tele rebuild. Nearly everything I'm doing is basically brand new to me. Thanks to this forum, I've learned so much. Pictures soon, I promise!

I just rounded the edges of the maple board, then set off to adjust the intonation.

I first measured (the scale) to get me close, and then adjusted accordingly with a tuner. I must say that the thing is spot, with an ever-so-slight plus or minus compensation for the two string pairs on each saddle - but both are in the "green."

Ah . . . my question . . . to get my scale length and with the final adjustments, the saddle adjustment screws are nearly half-way through the #1& #2 string's saddle and about three-quarters of the way through #3 & #4 string's saddle. #5 & #6 have 'some' thread barely sticking out.

Is this safe? Am I OK???

Thanks

Your High E and your B strings will be the farthest from the bridge wall and your Low E and your a strings will be the cloosest to the bridge wall with your D and G falling in between your High e and B should Intonate just slightly longer than 25 1/2 maybe even 25 and 7/16ths some wheres in that area i always set the scale a longer longer then they will intonate flat and you will have to move them forward rather than back...hopes this helped

BY bridge wall, I assume your are talking about the very rear wall?

I did begin by making the initial measurement somewhere in that range . . . then used the adjustment screws to get in spot-on!

I'm still concerned about the amount of screw through the saddles . . . 1/2 on 1&2 strings, 3/4 on 2&3 strings, and about even + in 5&6 . . . this is really my concerns!

I learn more and more everyday!

Thanks,
Vince

It sounds like you need to shim the neck up a little bit. That will help get the saddles back down where they belong....

Sorry again, sjfoote, I did not explain it well - not 'up and down' - but forward and backward . . . I have already shimmed the neck and have real low action with no buzz.

What I should have said:
The single long screw that goes into the back of each sadlle that allows for and aft adjustment of each saddle . . . that's the one that has the screws most of the way inside . . . even though the intonation is right on!
