Clip on tuners

Does anyone use a clip on tuner(such as the Inellitouch series) instead of the standard pedal tuners? Wondering about pros and cons...seems like a great idea and saves pedal board space.

I use one with teaching larger groups, as they allow me to tune kids' guitars while the other kids keep on making noise and fidgeting.

Also, sometimes onstage. Especially for the Acoustic Electrics that don't have built in Tuners or go through my Pedaltuner.

I think the Intellitouch sucks.

My $15.00 "Profile" (i.e. cheapie!) brand works much more quickly and accurately. It's also Chromatic and is Backlit. It actually lights up bright Green when "In Tune". Easy to see onstage.
It's like another $15.00 just to get the backlit model from Intellitouch. They actually sell a model which ISN'T backlit. Why bother? LOL

One peculiar trait of these Clip-Ons is that they sometimes register the 5th. of the Note. Still works fine, but you need to be aware of the B String reading as F# sometimes. Just "Tune" it to the "F#" and it'll be fine.
And sometimes you need to move the Clip around to a different part of the Headstock to get it to register well.

Overall though, very cool thing to have.

I've got a real cheap one ($8 off ebay) that works great if it's quiet around you. If there is any kind of noise in the background it gets confused.

I've never had any luck with them.

I've seen a bunch of those popping up at local gigs... sad-looking appendages that need to be removed. I'd rather be out of tune.

+1. I have the exact same problem.

I'm very happy with my Intellitouch PT-10 (backlit and switches colors when it locks in).

There's also a Barcus-Berry unit that looks nice and is more accurate than the Intellitouch (at a slightly lower price).

I have a Meisel and I have to say it's very good. I put it up against my Peterson Strobo-Flip and it is very close. It's fast to respond and works well with my guitars mandolin's and Dobros. I use it more than any other tuner now because of the convenience and I can get it on and off the instrument quickly prior to playing.
