Any of you folks familiar with Slider 59 pickups for a Fender Stratocaster .

The person who makes these hand wound pickups lives in Australia and thinking of getting a set for my Road Worn stratocaster .

I know they are not cheap ..

Any thought welcomed

I bought a set of his pickups after reading about him in this issue of Tonequest (http://www.helidriver.com/MLP/TQRJan09_proof.pdf, page 9). He uses NOS wire on a lot of his pickups, but they were too expensive for me, so I bought the 59 set with modern wire. I think they are made with quality materials and sound great. A definite improvement over the stock pickups in by '60 Custom Shop reissue.

One of the things I liked, is that they are not overwound, a tendency of a lot of winders. They do not sound too bright or brittle and the bridge pickup is really usable though it's only wound to about 6.2 k.

I've only had the pickups for less than 3 months, so I will not say they are the "greatest" pickups I've ever tried or the usual they're "better than anything else" hyperbole we are all prone too on these gear forums.

I can say I've been through many Strat pickups, and these, so far, are up there with the Fralin Vintage Hots I bought in '95 and the VanZandt True Vintage pickups I have in other guitars. Is one set better than the other? No. But they bring out the most of the particular guitars they are in.
