Compressor + Distortion = Feedback = BOO!

I have a modded cs-3. Puttin a proco rat behind it, when they are on together I get..... feedback galore. It really is a drag because I don't wanna stomp on the cs-3 (to disarm) then stomp on the rat just to get a dirty sound without getting feedback. Or am I just being lazy?

Anyhow...anybody know of any compressors that for a fact, do not cause feedback when accompanied with a distortion pedal?

The compressor is first in the signal....however I will get used to switching the compressor off before I stomp on the distortion pedal. It's funny how GAS works....you see...now this is going to be an excuse to buy all sorts of compressors. Perhaps one with a sustain knob that doesn't cause that subtle hissing sound.

+1 for GAS?!?

Here's a hint: The pedals aren't causing the feedback.

Yea, you gotta get that Vol pot turned way down on the git before you stack pedals that add gain.

Especially if it's a Tele bridge pickup. Some can hang with it (ridiculous amounts of gain) fine. Some can't, and they squeal. Those are the kind I like, the squeally kind..

Personally, I do it and luv it, although with my little pine no tone esquire it is like holding a hot potato, but fun fun fun...

I got a route 66 recently, and stacking the SD-1 with the distortion and the compressor on the 66, with the vol on the pine esquire starting at like 1/4 throttle until I get clear of the amp. yadi yadi

I use a CS-3 with a OD-3 all the time, but I always make sure my guitars aren't microphonic. Squeally feedback is bad, but controllable harmonic feedback is good for my tastes. Mounting your pickups with surgical tubing in place of springs, putting foam under your pickups, and wax potting your pickups are all good preventative measures. On a Tele bridge, making sure your bridge plate is flush to the body is important, too, for preventing bridge pickup squeals.

Also, on my compressor, the level (volume) knob has to be all the way down around 7:00 to use with my overdrive pedals.

I am finding the Route 66 with the distortion and compressor both in the same pedal handy for mashing both at the same time, especially when another distortion pedal up stream is hot. And even with my size 13s, the spacing on the two stomp buttons is perfect to not have any trouble
hitting one and not both too. ;)
