There's articles all over the net and some on this site too if you do a search. Looks like all you have to do is clip or unsolder one leg of the cap located at C10 on the circuit board. There are some other things you can do too, but more involved. This mod apparently only does anything at low volumes, the louder you get the less the cap comes into play. xjazzy March 17th, 2010, 04:11 PM In my DRRI I noticed the drives a bit fuzzy, not too dirty! But the bright cap mod took care of the fuzzy-ness. vjf1968 March 17th, 2010, 04:17 PM The bright cap acts like the bright switch on Fender Twins. When you have your volume set past 4 the less the cap effects the tone. But, when using any kind of distortion or OD it makes things sound fizzy. I had the cap clipped and been happy ever since. LaExpatriot March 17th, 2010, 04:24 PM Here is a link to an article that goes into it in detail. http://reitzel.com/schematics/Fender_Deluxe_Reverb_Reissue_Modifications.pdf appears to be pretty easy. Good luck. I had some major brightness issues with DRRI and changed the speaker and it helped a ton. I have not attempted the bright cap mod. I am looking at some of the tube mods in the article though. Good Luck. jglenn March 17th, 2010, 05:32 PM okay, thanks for the help guys, might try a lower gain pre amp tube first, and play at higher volume. teleluvver March 17th, 2010, 06:42 PM Hi, I just had some of these same questions and issues with a vintage Deluxe Reverb, and I got them solved. In the amp forum, check out the thread titled, Bright Cap in a '67 Deluxe Reverb - What to Do?. Maybe you'll find something helpful in there. FenderGuy53 March 17th, 2010, 10:03 PM If you notice, there's not a lot happening as you turn the Treble and Bass knobs with a DRRI. I took mine to an amp shop and had them do a Tone Stack Mod, which entailed replacing the caps for each EQ knob. When I got it back, the difference was like night and day - much more control of EQ. |
