I mean too much output. These tend to distort even at 3/4 vollume. Im wondering how dificult it would be to unwind them some? Im not too woried about screwing them up, but dont have a clue on how much wire to remove.
I believe I can do this, and if not,......Ill ruin some horible pups.
& yes....Ive tried lowering them. They just sound muddy.

I've heard of players unwinding modern Rickenbacker pickups to get a lower-output, clearer, more vintage chime out of them - so why not try it on some Turser cheapies?
I'm guessing you'd need to pull at least 15-20% off to hear any difference, and maybe 25% (or more!) would work even better for you, depending on how much you hate how they sound now... It should make them brighter (less bass) and lower the output.
The flys in the ointment are: how tough is it to get the covers off; how heavily they are potted; and how "scatterwound" they are - which might make them tough to unwind without an unwanted break in the coil wire. Break the coil wire somewhere in the middle of the wind, and you can pretty much just toss 'em. Remember, the coil wire can only have TWO ends and still work!

this is the neck HB. started unwinding the left half.
I just might get this back together, But now I have to go to work.
Thanx for the motivation to ruin this:roll:

So, it turns out that this is not so easy. So now it's time to research new pups. Opinions on the hill Golden Age line from stewmac.com? I really cant afford to shell out for Duncans.

Take a look at the Guitarfetish or Tonerider offerings.
