Let's hear your funny band name ideas (real or not). If I was in a band today I think we'd have to call ourselves:

Band names are fun , last year a book was published called the band name book.
Noel Hudson compiled it, I was honored that he included my group (weapon Shop)
It is full of fun names like Hard Broccoli , Deep Banana Blackout, Big thumb Bowlers,
and many more as well as some better known Bands.
I also have an imaginary stoner band I imagine I play in called the Towlies.

I was in a band called "Pink Lemonade" when I was 14. Awful name, awful music.

I was in a blues-rock band a year ago for a while called "The Prodigious Criminals". Always hated the name, but I was desperate for a band, and it was a solid lineup. We sounded good.

The Prodigious Criminals evolved into The Virtuous Criminals, and then when the guy left the lineup (who was the only one among us who ever liked the name in the first place), we changed it to "The Black Bayou Rhythm".

I suppose Black Bayou Rhythm isn't great, but it's the name of the bayou where me and my bandmates all grew up around. Literally. We all live within a 1/4 mile of it. I live about 100 yards from it. So at least it holds meaning.

KC, I took one look at that list and the first thing I saw was The Legendary 4-Nikators. I remember them from my days in Denver. It always cracked me up that the newspapers would only list their gigs under the name Legendary Nikators. Yeesh!

EDIT: I joined a couple of buddies for a casual make-music-for-a-friend's-housewarming-party gig, and when we got there the guy (a United Church minister) asked one of them what the band's name was. Without consulting us, he told the good reverend "Ass Juice". We played his annual party a few more times, including an acoustic set called "Ass Juice Uncorked". There was a t-shirt made.

That is funny. I saw a band called the Asbestos Tampons that was formed in 2005. What is REALLY funny is that I had a faux "punk band" that I put together for our own little drunken bar version of the Gong Show in college back in 1980. This was right after the whole toxic shock syndrome thing and the start of the asbestos panic and the two names that I came up with were The Asbestos Tampons and The Toxic Shock Absorbers. Great minds think alike. This was around the same time as the engineering fraternity at Emory was holding Jonestown parties where they served Kool Ade and Everclear and for one party had a guy dressed and painted up to look bloated and rotting lying on a chaise lounge on the front lawn drinking the Kool Ade. Ah,the good old days. Of the newer band names, Brian Jonestown Massacre is still one of my favorites.

Real band names from Australian bands, (none of which I've played in)

The Celibate Rifles
Machine Gun Felatio
People With Chairs Up Their Noses
The Bondi Cigars <-- you need to live in Sydney to understand this one

and my current favourite, a local duo called

Tickle Me Chook Skin

The closest I came to with a funny band name was Nosbig & Zenabi which of course is Gibson & Ibanez backwards. These were the guitars we had. Not really funny I know...

I keep a list of "band names" - my criteria for this list is that the terms must occur spontaneously within the context of conversation and be recorded in the order that they were spoken. So basically these are all things I've heard someone say and thought 'hey, that's a good band name':

Trash Rockets
Turkey Grenade
Backseat Squeegees
Dust Velcro
Hot Swap
Bird Urine
Silent Client
Shock Baton
Memory Dump
Eternal Roadblock
Fires Arise
Minor Crisis
Bad Math
Don Henley on the Moon

Ulterior Motive
Emancipated Minor
Rat Funnel

I can remember the story associated with each one.

Just last night I ran across a phrase in a fellow TDPRIer's post in another thread that I thought would make for an interesting band name: "Schools with Pools."

In the real world, albeit some time ago, I played with some friends in a group fronted by a guy with the last name of Saenz. I thought we should call ourselves "Saenz & Wonders." He didn't go for it, though.

I think all band names are goofy, if you thing about it. My students are always laughing at band names from the 60's and 70's, (Humphrey and the Dumptrucks...The Loving Spoonful...) But I wonder what future generations will think of Hoobastank, or Goo Goo Dolls. I played in a short lived band after high school called Ovenjoy and the Dry Heaves, and since played in Section Wacko, and still play in J BAWB (just below average white band) Gotta go listen to some Foo Fighters...

Local bands around here:

Lazy Boy & The Rockers (they also call themselves the ORBS now and again-stands for Old Rotten Bastards)

The Swinging Johnsons

Nervous Turkey

Genitorturers

Impotent Sea Snakes

Have Gun, Will Travel

The Divyners

A band I was in in the 80's was called NSF-Non Sufficient Funds, what they stamped on my checks when they bounced...

Another band back in the 80's-He's Dead Jim

And of course, the Generic Blues Band...

Franc Robert

I highlighted a couple of my favorites... see ya at Heatwave, Franc?

& is there any relation between the Impotent Sea Snakes and another band called The Ominous Seapods?? I always get 'em confused

A band from NYC in the 80s that was simply fantastic was Joey Miserable and The Worms. There's some low quality youtubes of them from Nightingales in NYC... they got booked in a Portage Lakes bar in Akron OH regularly, somehow, where I used to see them. Fantastic R&B outfit w/ horns, they were funny as hell too. Ended every set with an eight second "Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm gonna eat some worms!"

A current band name I like is My Son The Bum
