Walnut Necks?

So I've seen a few walnut builds here, including Guitarnut's, and was wondering what the general attitude is towards using walnut for necks. It's not as dense as maple but will it still get the job done? Guitarnut shared his research with me about how the density of walnut is similar to that of certain types of mahogany that are used in necks, that looks fine on paper but I would like to hear from anybody else who have had a walnut neck for a long period of time. How is it holding up? Are there any reasons to avoid using walnut for necks?

Walnut is not considered wear resistant enough to use as a fretboard material; frets don't stay put as well as with maple, etc.

A great neck wood , but as stated before , it is not such a good choice for fretboards . I have three with walnut necks .
