rompo420 March 8th, 2010, 07:27 AM Hey all, I just finished my first Tele-style guitar. It started out as a Grizzly kit but I ended up buying a lot of stuff for it afterwards (including making a trade for the neck.)
Do ya'll like it??
Also, I bought these Fender tuning Keys for 20 bucks because my friend that owned them said they were "mismatched."
The gear housings look exactly the same but the posts for the 5th and 6th string are different from the others. I don't really care much but are they in fact mismatched, or did Fender do this for a reason?
guityak March 8th, 2010, 08:38 AM I think it is nice. Is that a matt finish on the body?
bluebilly March 8th, 2010, 08:44 AM Cool man, it's got that rat-rod thing going on!
paulskirocks March 8th, 2010, 08:44 AM Congrats! Looks nice...
guitarminator March 8th, 2010, 08:54 AM Cool build, what's that p'up? Pics of the back?
wunderaj March 8th, 2010, 09:12 AM reminds me of a non reliced or decaled version of the strummer guitar awesome!
Ironwolf March 8th, 2010, 09:27 AM By mismatched, do you mean a couple of the posts are shorter than the others? If so, they are for the B and E strings, to eliminate the need for string trees.
boris bubbanov March 8th, 2010, 01:20 PM On that type of Fender-Ping die cast tuner, the shortest posts go to the B and treble E strings. We call this "staggering" and if there are 3 post heights, the tallest go on the big E and the A strings.
I wouldn't say it eliminates the need for string trees, but it reduces the stress on the trees you do use and the guitar tends to be more stable in tuning.
Donnie55 March 8th, 2010, 03:23 PM Looks great, how does it sound ?

CJFearn March 9th, 2010, 12:01 AM I've always had a thing for matt black. Very nice! I think I'll have to make me one too!
rompo420 March 10th, 2010, 09:04 AM I think it is nice. Is that a matt finish on the body?
Yeah, matte or satin finish.
rompo420 March 10th, 2010, 09:07 AM By mismatched, do you mean a couple of the posts are shorter than the others? If so, they are for the B and E strings, to eliminate the need for string trees.
4 short and 2 long...so I just used the long ones on the 5th and 6th string, used the 4 shorter ones for everything else...made sense to me.
rompo420 March 10th, 2010, 09:12 AM The PUP is actually just a cheap hotrail I picked up from Guitarheads.net. I also modded the control plate to be switchless, since I was just running only the one PUP. I had given serious thought to Esquire wiring but found that most people were in agreement that all of those tones could be achieved with the tone knob.
It actually sounds amazing- very tough! I was going for the ratrod thing too so I am glad that that was picked up on....
Also, I appreciate the information you guys had on those tuners.
All in all, this was fun as hell and I cannot wait to do another one!!!
mnutz May 11th, 2010, 03:21 AM Wow, I love it! That is my idea of a great looking guitar!
