I'm claiming an entry in this contest. I have no clue what its gonna be but there have to be some unusual parts in. In dutch a refrigirator is called a "koelkast" so that explain the name coolcaster.

2010 TDPRI $210 Challenge-koelcasteroigun March 3rd, 2010, 11:45 AM I'm claiming an entry in this contest. I have no clue what its gonna be but there have to be some unusual parts in. In dutch a refrigirator is called a "koelkast" so that explain the name coolcaster. tuuur March 3rd, 2010, 12:39 PM Yay! Super cool (geddit?) that you joined as well!!! robt57 March 3rd, 2010, 12:43 PM 1st: good luck with your build. 2nd: This raises a good question Photos in your build thread must show the uncut wood at the beginning (WITH a hand drawn sign showing that day's date in the photo and the words "TDPRI $210 Telecaster Challenge"). Do the pictures with the wood and the sign have to be posted by the entry deadline, or will just the sign be 'legal' and an entrant add the wood pic later post procurement. Or if I interpret the text of the rules correctly, just starting the tread names properly enters you. And as long as the sign and the wood pic are in there at the end date you are good. ??? tgfmike March 3rd, 2010, 12:43 PM I think koelcaster is even cooler. : ) robt57 March 3rd, 2010, 12:47 PM I think koelcaster is even cooler. : ) I was thinking that too... Paul had written somewhere else that the declaration of intent (aka starting a thread) was to be done by midnight tonight, but the wood photo could be at a later date. As long as it's done before the body is cut. oigun March 3rd, 2010, 03:00 PM I think koelcaster is even cooler. : ) Dunno.....I've changed it  I had understand that the wood must be shown before cutting the body..Hope so because I have a friend who lives in a house that is build around 1600AD. We restored it years ago and maybe he has some leftover wood that would be koel huh. tgfmike March 3rd, 2010, 03:59 PM that would be koel huh Totally koel, dude! :fist bump: Moggl March 4th, 2010, 06:15 AM Totally koel, dude! :fist bump: +1 :-) oigun March 4th, 2010, 12:16 PM So I went to my friends house: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-3ACIN7YR.jpg And go to the cellar to find a nice piece: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-8U7HZ7UX.jpg It's HUGE!!! http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-FVXIZRWZ.jpg cut a nice lump off: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-YOZZTBSH.jpg And took it home on my bicycle :D http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-TCXEQDHE.jpg The other piece of wood its some kind of rosewood I don't know for sure yet because there is no smell. It has no smell only a little moldy/fungushy smeel. Does the rosewood smell disappear over time? http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-6L6QQCGW.jpg It looks like light kind of rw to me... http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-OEXYBIWX.jpg Now i have to decide on the tuners I had buyed a box of machineheads once There are really nice 6 on a plate and not so nice three on a side. BUT I had a snakehead in mind and cannot cut up the 6 on a plate because the post spacing is to narrow. WHAT should I do??? Nope beech is very light(not in weight:mrgreen:) and have another structure. Its something tropical for sure. And there is some really light rosewood too. 68thinline March 5th, 2010, 09:45 AM Some kind of teak, perhaps? Brazilian teak can be light red. Looks like a nice straight grain for a fingerboard. oigun March 5th, 2010, 09:50 AM Not teak I work with teak on a daily basis, so I'm sure its not. But it will make a great fingerboard! oigun March 5th, 2010, 12:45 PM Soup anyone? http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-ETWB7XT4.jpg Its my first purchase special for the build so 53cents and counting http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-64VX37YA.jpgNow let it simmer for a couple of hours.... http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-PFJ3TE8M.jpg cheers! wisdom 86 March 5th, 2010, 02:30 PM That is a truly massive plank!!! A computermouse is ideal for a counter I had a fancy digital counter but it was to sensitive and it picks up all the vibrations of my machine, so that didnt work. The advance of using an old sewing machine is that all the parts are there. Its convienient to have a footpedal so that you have your hands free to manage the wire etc. boris bubbanov March 24th, 2010, 02:57 AM http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-JESLWJBV.jpg Oigun, this is Sick! See what it looks like with a layer of shellac maybe. Oigun, I think that wood would look really interesting if you left the distressing on it, stained it and put a clear finish over the stain. Here's a picture of a mandolin I made a while back that shows what I mean. I sprayed a slight sunburst with an airbrush using water based wood stain (mahogany and yellow from Clou). The trick was that afterward I sprayed it with just enough plain water (pretty wet but not dripping) so that the color, which was very even up to that point, ran more to the softer parts of the wood and gave it a much more interesting character. Once it had dried for a fay or two I sprayed it with clear nitro, but any other kind of clear finish would do. I think your idea of shellac would be good. oigun April 5th, 2010, 02:08 PM My only concern with stain is that the wormholes I filled with epoxy are white. I've discovered that I have to make the epoxy warm (au bain marie) before mixing than it will stay clear. But it was to late... I cant ry to stain it with an alcohol based stain. helectrix April 7th, 2010, 04:29 AM grrrreat, those knobs!! looks like somebody was inspired by some other forum personality :) alias23k April 7th, 2010, 06:12 AM you love you some epoxy don't you?! Lovin this build, ideas hatching allover the place with this one. And probably a soundclip. sean79 April 22nd, 2010, 06:22 PM Gorgeous. mako224 April 25th, 2010, 10:06 AM While I don't have much to add on building guitars cause I've never done it, I have been making surfboards for many years. Just a tip for making the resin pickgaurd you were attempting and how I would do it. Its very similar to the method we use for making fiberglass fin blanks for surfboards. Start with a piece of glass or an old mirror. Using 3m 233 green masking tape, mask off the area of the glass you will be covering with resin. Now give the glass 6 coats of a quality carnuba car wax. I would suggest laying down at least a single layer of 2oz. fiberglass cloth in your first coat to give you a little strength as a backer. The cloth will disappear in the resin. Now lay down your colored resin. Once its hardened you can use your masking tape boarder to peel it up and pop it off of the glass. Once you get an edge going it will pop right off. Also be aware that many epoxy resins yellow significantly as they age. I would suggest silmar poliester resin or West System epoxy resin with the special 207 clear hardener. oigun April 25th, 2010, 10:16 AM Thanks Mako, this would really help!! oigun April 26th, 2010, 06:28 AM Tried to make a soundclip. Because there is no tone control I did a little mod to the pot: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-AUPC4CQA.jpg I put a 249K resistor between the outer side of the pot and ground so the pot value changed to 125K For a slightly warmer tone. The twang is still there but I dont have to turn my treble on my amp way down. I want to make a little switch in the cc cover so I can turn it on/off. More info about changing pot values: http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/potm.htm Sometimes even a tele is an itsybtsy tooo bright:mrgreen: bullitt April 28th, 2010, 10:43 AM Extremely cool guitar, nice take on a Tele, looks like an old jazz model.
