Nah, guys. Sorry.

They did blink when Paul first switched over to this software. He made the switch later.

You guys were just too late to see it.

Something to be said about being the early bird, I suppose.

CHAPTER ONE

Easing into the soft, black leather chair, Nigel struck a safety match and deftly put it to his briar. The tobacco crackled and popped as tendrils of butter rum-scented smoke poured over the bowl, entwining around each other. Evening thrushes quickly flew past the window, peppering the oak paneling in the den with come-and-go shadows. The grandfather clock in the gloomy corner tick-tocked with the steady, eerie beat of a mechanical heart. Nigel's faithful Irish wolfhound, Hondo, lay on the sissel rug before the fire, shamelessly breaking wind with all of the might and regularity of a Bavarian zug lokomotive.
"See here, fellow..." Nigel softly snapped. "I won't have you fouling my den with the scent of..of...flaming tires."
Hondo rolled his plebian eyes upward to his master; Nigel stared down his patrician nose at Hondo. Seconds passed.
Hondo sighed and stared back into the hypnotic blaze in the fireplace. Nigel resumed reading his Kensington-Smythe Sportsman's Quarterly, peering through his half-glasses like an Eton prefect.
The clock ticked.
The fire crackled.
Suddenly, out of the relative stillness, Hondo hitched a strain, and broke the placidity with a loud, Maxim gun-stacatto flatus--a burst lasting well over fifteen seconds, and fading to its coda with a screaming-hissing glissando up the musical scale.
Nigel smacked the wolfhound with his periodical. "You common git! I'll have no more of it!" Hondo brushed his master's wallop aside as it were little more than a fly.
A quiet rap fell upon the den door. "Yes, my dear?" Nigel asked.
"Are you well, dear?" Harriett half-ruefully inquired. "I keep hearing the strangest noises coming from in here."
"It's Hondo. He has the infernal gusts. You must tell the servants to quit feeding him porkpies and pasties. His bowels protest; so should we!" Nigel lazily retorted.
"All right, dear," Harriett replied.
Nigel looked down again at the cream-colored behemoth. "You ill-mannered devil. One could catch your nefarious gas and paint it green."
Hondo sighed and quickly fell asleep before the warm glow of the fire.

because they're relatively uncommon. You can readily find electric guitars in most every color except green, which has always puzzled me.

I've always thought it very cool of Eric Clapton to choose Candy Green (or what EC calls "7-UP green") as one of the color options for his Fender Signature Stratocaster.

As far as I'm concerned, that particular finish would look perfect on just about any guitar or bass you could think of...Tele, Strat, a Les Paul, an Explorer, a Jazz Bass, a Rick 4001 bass--you name it. Heck--quite frankly, I'd love to have that very Sparkle Jet or one identical to it!

That picture made my day--thanks, Tim! :D

Hey Tim! What a GREAT looking SparkleJet!!! You said that you "used" to own it - so I take it that you no longer have it. Too bad. Even if it played bad, and sounded worse, it still looks too cool to put down!

So, we're going for 500 on this thread to see if we can light up the green light eh? We gotta LONNNNNGGGG way to go! I'll do my best to help keep it going. I can't get to my computer as often as usual, due to moving, but I'll try.

OK, I'm in .....

The guitar I'd like to own most would be my original Tele. I think it was a 60s-something (I bought it used) with that yellowy kind of solid finish, white pick guard, maple neck. Previous owner had put a Gibson PAF in the neck.

I loved it, and it was my Number 1. I used it on some sessions, and I still listen to those tracks from time to time .....

Sigh .......

Then, like an idiot (who knew, at the time?), I stripped off the finish to the ash underneath, put on a black pick guard, brass nut and bridge (hey, it was the 70s), high output pickups. Yikes.

Later sold it to help finance college, but got it back (total fluke) a few years later, then sold it again.

But if I could have it back in the same condition I first bought it in ......

Sigh .....

Cheers,
BK

Mr. Joel Terry - I really enjoyed your little story! You have a wonderful way with words! Are you a writer??? I always enjoy reading your posts.

Thank you, Timothy--I appreciate your kind words! Actually, I do like to write; I majored in journalism at school (even though I'm disgusted by what passes for journalism these days. A lot of today's so-called journalists overtly attempt to manipulate public opinion by editorializing way too much instead of simply reporting the news like they should).

I'm one who still likes to write and mail letters to friends and family; it's therapeutic for me--kind of like keeping a journal. My e-mails tend to destroy all e-mail protocols and conventions--mine are usually too detailed and long. :o :P I don't know if I would ever have the patience to write novels. I have a couple of really good story ideas I believe would make decent books, though. Most of the things I write--like the story in this thread--are just off-the-cuff, sometimes quirky little things.

My mom started a Real Estate Company back in ~1967.

She had came up with the name of Green Acres Real Estate (at the time she was selling a lot of small farms). One month after she had gotten her artwork and business cards back from the printers, the TV show of Green Acres came on. Her mouth dropped to the floor. It was so obvious to all the outsiders, that she copied the name of the show. But us insiders always knew that GARE was her own brain child.

BTW, that company was formed after her involvement with Mary Kaye Cosmetics '63~'67. My mom and three other ladies were the first ones to attend MK's first sales meeting around a kitchen table. Of course, that was a very Pink theme.

My mom has always said that green is her favorite color. That's because she and her twin sister were born on St. Patrick's Day . . . AND . . . it's the color of money  .

Here's my "Go for the Green" post for today!

Name this band for a thousand points:

"picnic lunches of yesterday, should still have a place in your heart today, think about it, 'cause we'll all be going home so soon..."

That should keep us busy for awhile.

Green, green... what's green??? Oh yeah - my grandfather came over from Ireland back in the early 1900's. I reckon that kinda makes ME green!

I'll contribute more to the green madness later.

Now sing with me....

"The old hometown still looks the same,
As I step down from the train,
There to meet me is my mama and my papa
Down the lane I look and there comes Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green green grass of home..."

... is probably my favorite piece of guitar playing. Tone, phrasing, and flow --- excellent call! I would have loved to have used it as a wedding song. "You're my blue sky, you're my sunny day. Lord you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way." Beautiful.

As for the one guitar I'd want to have if money were no object, I'd own a natural/blonde finished Super 400C with a Charlie Christian pickup. That's more GREEN than I'll probably ever be able to call discretionary! It's cool to think about it though. Good topic, and a lot of fun for everyone, so it seems.

Starters tree: GREEN light good! Red light bad. Remember the RED-LIGHT BANDIT?

AA Funny Car: The GREEN Elelphant. A 1974 Chevy Vega Funny Car, sponsored by Green Elephant products. Believe it or not, it caused a huge outroar amongst the drivers (all in good fun): The color green should not be on an NHRA race car, cause they beleived (superstitiously?) that a GREEN car was bad luck! Some of the drivers would go as far as making sure that not one drop of GREEN was ever put on their car! If the sponsors decal had GREEN in it, they would have a logo air-brushed on, with out the color GREEN. Some of the sponsors didnt like that.

The GREEN Mamba, jet dragster: It was purely for exhibition runs, but it was a wild draw.

The color of money is GREEN: back in the 60's and 70's, the purses for winning a race werent much: A big purse was between $1,000.00, to $10,000.00 bucks. Not a lot of GREENbacks, when you factor in how much it costs to run a AAFunny Car, or Top Fuel Dragster. Solution? The drivers themselves, would throw in a case of beer, a case of oil, a set of tools, etc.. The race promoters would beg the sponsors to throw some goodies in too. Now, it is one big corporate sponsorship run race. The purses are still low, but the sponsor money, is much GREENer pastures, for the race teams.

I havent been to a drag race in a long, long, time. The last time I went, it just wasnt much fun. Lost all of the comraderie. All the pit areas are cordoned off behind barriers. Only the "press can see what's goin on, and the fans, are kept way back. I can remeber when we used to work on the cars in the pits, and some of the fans would come up and watch us wrenchin on our cars, from about 3 feet away, in total amazement, that we could tear out all 8 pistons, replace the bearings, put in new pistons, button it all up, and be ready to go in 60 minutes or less. It was alway's kinda cool to see the looks on their faces when we fired it up in the pits to test that everything was ok. Shock, surprise, amazement, and sometimes even a lil applause from em (especially if I toasted that engine goin the 1/4).

And then all the fun with all the other drivers. The pit areas were side by side, and that could lead to some fun, and some practical jokes. I remeber one time next to Dale Armstrong, I decided to put some raw eggs in the empty chute pack (the chute is usually packed last). Most real good drivers, pack there own chutes. And Dale was REAL GOOD! Laughed my butt off, when he flipped that bottom flap down, and six raw eggs plopped out at his feet! It was on then! Next time I jumped in the car in the pits to fire up after a tear down, Dale slyly slipped in behind the car (the body was off), and laid down about four eggs in my seat, just as I was seating myself in! I could hear him cacklin like a chicken real pleased with hisself! Steve Edwards ( a young Steve Edwards at that time) had a feild day with that one over the PA! Got everyone at Irwindale roarin about our siliness!

Yeah, those day's are gone. But we can still get the GREEN light to flashin here!

LIME JELL-O® HUMOR (Courtesy of HaLife (http://www.halife.com/files/jello.html)):

Did you ever notice how a saucer of lime Jell-O® looks like a contact lense for an octopus?

How do we really know that lime Jell-O® isn't just cherry Jell-O that's not ripe yet? Or grape Jell-O® that's faded?

Protect yourself. Statistics show that nobody was ever murdered while eating lime Jell-O®. For making it, yes, but not while eating it.

Lime Jell-O® must always be in great demand at the supermarket -- C'mon: You never see a sale on lime Jell-O®.

Did you ever wonder why they always serve you lime Jell-O® when you're in the hospital? Because when you're sick you can't fight back.

And now back to the program,

My eyeballs aren't good enough to read it, even with a magnifying glass. Other than the word GREEN on the amp, that is

Green grass and trees are the most pleasant visuals that we see every day and take for granted. When winter comes along, we long for greenary again.

Yet, many of us don't like green guitars, trucks or furniture. Why is that?

Well, I was supposed to open for Haggard on friday, but he called in sick, and didn't show. I guess he's feeling a little, "Green around the gills"...

Seriously though, let's all pull for Merle, he ain't no spring chicken, and the good ones have been dropping like flies lately.

Yet, many of us don't like green guitars, trucks or furniture. Why is that?

i had a discussion about that not long ago with friends, we were wondering why theres so much green in nature, but people dont really use the color with most objects, we came to the conclusion that either theres enough green in the world, or that we only like the tones of green that are in nature, and we cant replicate it perfectly, so we dont really like the artificialness (yeah, its a word :) ) of it...but...

ive got a green couch..
the floors of montecello (jeffersons pad) are green, to be like grass...
the statue of liberty (yeah, i know it was originally copper colored)
astro-turf is green..

yeah..i dont know...im loosing it with the greens....-john

Hmmm... I don't much like the looks of that punch bowl, it clashes terribly with it surroundings. I wonder kind of drapes are in that room? I mean, the whole picture is just kind of hideous. It looks like martha Stewart had some sort of mental breakdown while contemplating decorating a prison cell.

Since you started this thread, I see it only fitting that you award that Hard Rock Cafe pin to the person who actually posts the green blinking 500th post.

Of coarse to be fair, the 500th post cannot have posted in any of the previous 10 posts, or no more than 2 consecutive posts in the range of 475 to 500.
