Ever since I wrote that, I've been trying to remember what song it came from. I'm in a big Z.Z. Top mode right now, since I just picked up "Mescalero". From looking around the net, it seems that they are MUCHO hated nowadays. Very uncool - which make's 'em MUCHO cool by me! The only albums that I don't like are "Afterburner", and I'm not real crazy with "El Loco". I never heard "XXX", but I'm wild about everything else. 'Specially "Rhythmeen". My good friend with the two 52 RI's, and 18 amps out in his barn, does all of his "in the house" practicing with his Tele into a Digitech RP100 processor, which goes into his Pignose - that's his "watching TV" rig. He gets an awful racket going with that combination. He doesn't know how to set up the Digitech, so he just uses the presets. Those presets were designed specifically to induce the "Teenage Wow Factor", which sounds pretty atrocious through a Pignose! Sounded great, and didn't blow (sorry Pyramid). I don't have much of a sense of smell, and I could swear I smelled something burning for the whole set! On the second set, when all of the sit ins start coming up, and the volume goes up, I plugged straight into the Pro Reverb, turned it to about 9, and faced it towards the wall. Back in those ancient times, Tweed Champs went from $25-$40 depending on how trashed they were. At the apex of my Tweed Champ era I had a stack of seven of the little boogers and tone for days. I don't think anyone had ever seen that kind of thing in 73, I used to get some stares. trag-o-caster September 20th, 2004, 11:40 AM That's great Cookie! About the worst tone I ever got was at an informal jam just recently, where I had two of my Champs, and a Peavey Classic 20 all hooked up. One of those Champs had the 10" Jensen P10R reissue, which sounded AMAZINGLY bad. Just obnoxious high end, and no lows. It seemed to be louder than the other two amps, and was the major contributor to the whole rig sounding bad. It blew that night! I was thankful! It's been re-worked, and re-speakered with an 8" Kendrick Blackframe, and now sounds KILLER. Since then, I've got a B1uesboy 5F1 Champ clone with a big pine cab, and a 10" Weber 10A100 alnico speaker. I've yet to hook these up together. I'm a bit chicken, as I really DON'T want to blow that B1uesboy amp up. It may make a good pairing with the Champ/Kendrick amp though. I'm going to drop a Weber alnico in that Peavey Classic 20 I think. It just sits in the closet gathering dust for the most part. Happily it is :). It's the only JT I've had my hands on, so I can't say if they're all of the same quality, but this one is excellent. It feels and sounds better than my mate's Epiphone Les Paul (nothing wrong with the Epi, just a useful yardstick for comparison), and I know I can tweak it a little more, but all I've done since it arrived is play and polish. Those inlays are smooth and don't interfere with string bending, and there are side marker dots so you don't have to learn which coil of the serpent is on which fret. These two points are the potential problems I could foresee. I knew I could change the pick-ups if necessary, but I'm in no hurry now I've heard them. The UK price is in Epiphone territory, and the best of all is that my wife paid for it :). Thanks for the compliments; I didn't build it, but I did choose it. I'm guessing that it's somewhat like the Ventures??? Yes, broadly similar to The Ventures; a mix of originals and instrumental covers of popular songs. Have you heard The Ventures' version of 'Apache'? It's very different to the Shadows' original. The Shads also covered 'Walk Don't Run'. There's a 'Shadows 50 Golden Greats' CD out which has many of the early original tunes and is well worth a listen. We just got back from another trip to Kokomo, IN. spending time with my oldest son. I drove for 5 hours Sunday, and hit the bandstand that night. Maybe I should run the Sovtek Mig50 into it and dime that as well! Le's see - two DR's at about 20 watts each, one 12" each. One Pro Reverb at 40 watts, with 2 12's One 40-50 watt Sovtek head into 2 12's.... Thats about 150-ish watts into 6 12" speakers. All on 10 of course! :twisted: Y'think that oughtta do it?
