http://www.schomakers.com/AppleLabela.jpg
The following questions refer to Apple Records Singles only:
Does anyone remember what the first Apple Records release was?
Does anyone know what the second one was?
Who knows who sang on the first release of "My Sweet Lord"?
Can you name at least 10 artists that appeared on Apple Records (there were at least 22)?
Do you know who, what song and when the last non-Beatles Apple Records release was?

No, I thought it was a good idea - but I didn't know who (other than Billy Preston maybe) sang on My Sweet Lord! Or did you mean the Chiffons?
The others are, I guess, Hey Jude, Thingummybob, which were the first two, I think, and Woman Power by Yoko Ono, about 1975 as the last one??
As far as the other artists, Badfinger, Mary Hopkins, Black Dyke Mills Band, Billy Preston, James Taylor, Yoko Ono, Ravi Shankar, Jimmy Cliff, are about all I know!

I was just thinking the same thing today. However, consider the anticipation of a new guitar or amp. You can't stop thinking about it until it arrives. Then there is a few days of euphoria. Then you become complacent. However, every now and then your heart skips a beat when you play your dream guitar (even if it was your 3rd out of 7 that you own). These are the inspiring moments that keeps you enjoying your passion.

reverbbb July 27th, 2004, 10:14 PM Does anyone remember what the first Apple Records release was?
The answer was indeed "Hey Jude" with "Revolution" on the flip side.
reverbbb July 27th, 2004, 10:16 PM Does anyone know what the second one was?
Mary Hopkins "Those Were The Days" & "Turn, Turn, Turn" on the flip side.
reverbbb July 27th, 2004, 10:19 PM Who knows who sang on the first release of "My Sweet Lord"?
None other than the "5th Beatle" - Billy Preston.
It is interesting to note, that one sourse states that Billy was 10 years old in 1958 when he was already recording with some old time proffessionals. That means that he was only 21 or so when he played with the Beatles - AMAZING!
reverbbb July 27th, 2004, 10:25 PM Can you name at least 10 artists that appeared on Apple Records (there were at least 22)?
1-The Beatles
2-Mary Hopkin
3-Jackie Lomax
4-Black Dyke Mills Band
5-The Iveys
6-Trash (isn't that Edgar Winter & company?)

17-Bill Elliot
18-Ravi Shankar
19-Yoko Ono
20-Chris Hodge
21-Sundown Payboys
22-Elephant's Memory
23-Lon & Derek Van Eaton
That's all that appeared on the singles in the list that I found.
reverbbb July 27th, 2004, 10:30 PM Do you know who, what song and when the last non-Beatles Apple Records release was?
Bad Finger; Apple Of My Eye; March 8th, 1974
Apparently, Badfinger never saw a penny of the proceeds from Apple Records. Linda Eastmans uncle was a terrible busiman for Apple Records. The singer of Badfinger was so distraught over the situation, that he reportedly commited suicide. This TOTALLY infuriated George Harrison and he demanded the liquidation of Apple Records and thus the long running personality battles became well know to the whole world.
Joel Terry July 27th, 2004, 11:12 PM For us, we will forever just simply enjoy the fact that <font size=4 color=green>"we did it!"</font>

Lookin through <font size=4 color=green>GREEN<font size=4 color=green> colored glasses they are. And the moose will laugh! Not at us, he just thought of something that was funny.
Ahh--the moose again. Let me tell you about the moose, laddie...and I'm sure Master P. Green, Proprietor, will aye right behind me every point....
The moose is a noble beast, without question. It does love to laugh, and it laughs often, long, and heartily.
The Kootenay tribe of the American Indian spoke often of the moose in its tribal glyphs, calling the great beast "ta'alayni," which, in the literal English translation, means one of two things: "The sacred great brown beast, who blesses us with its majestic call," or "Beautiful honking gravy boat." (Anthropological linguists agree that the second translation is a puzzler.)
Little known facts about the moose:
The plural of moose is not "moose," "mooses," or "meese"; it's "mooeesesseses"
The moose loves peanut butter and crackers, and has been found with moss-covered skeletons around its antlers of hikers who packed the much-loved American makeshift sandwich snack.
One moose can send powerful signals to other mooeesesseses by jetting a single stream of urine 3 meters / 1.7 miles long. (Natural deforestation is often the result of these "moose chats.")
The moose has no natural mortal enemies; however, it is surprisingly sensitive and susceptible to heckling.
The longest-lived moose in captivity was a male named "Hubert," who lived to the ripe old age of three centuries, two decades, at the Grass River Corridor Animal Preserve, Flin Flon, Manitoba. Eventually, Hubert cracked in half and dissipated into little acrid motes of dust that were windblown forever into the Manitoba sky.
Moose saliva smells like that banana fingernail polish remover stuff.
A moose once bit my sister.
No, really!
Moose antlers have a chewy caramel center.
The moose has a low coefficient of friction; because of this, it was once used by frontier children as mountainside sleds. (In fact, the international word to denote someone falling--"Geronimo"--originated not with the name of the famous Apache chief, but as an abbreviated version of half-frozen, lockjawed frontier moppets yelling, "Hey--You're on a moose!")
The number of U.S. and Canadian fatalities due to moose bites is second only to prarie rattlesnakes and black widow spiders.
Moose flatulence results in quick, plasma-like bursts of cyan-colored static electricity called triboluminescence, much like when you bite down on a Wint-O-Green™ Life Savers® in the dark.
GODE SAVE THEE MOOSE.

PraiseCaster July 27th, 2004, 11:48 PM You left out the most important conglomoration of Moosedom factoid:
The Sacred Green Moose!
The Kootenay tribe has some wonderful sacred songs and dances dedicated to their spirit guide, the GREEN Moose!
And many a Kotenanny believe, that if they are blessed enough to see the rare GREEN Moose, they will be endowed with not only the Moose Wisdom passed thru the ages, but on top of that, their first born will be endowed with the gift of Moose-Whisper! They will be fore-warned of coming catastraphy, told where the best hunting grounds are, and their children will be "imprinted" with a birth mark on their left buttock, of a Moose Head, signifying the bond between the Kootenanny, and the Moose.
Also, one other little factoid about the GREEN Moose: wherever it's droppings land, a peanut bush grows grandly. Of course this has also lead to the Kootenanny uprisings, because they are convinced that Skippy, Jiff, and Peter-Pan, have held there Scared GREEN Moose (or Mooeesesseses) captive, and forcing them into a white mans capitolistic slavery for profit! Telemaniac July 28th, 2004, 03:32 PM Does anyone know what the second one was?
Mary Hopkins "Those Were The Days" & "Turn, Turn, Turn" on the flip side.
Just out of curiosity I looked this one up, and it seems that four records were released on 26 August 1968 in the US and 31 August 1968 in the UK - I don't know why the dates were split. They were:
Hey Jude, Those Were the Days (Mary Hopkins), Thingumybob (Black Dyke Mills Band) and Sour Milk Sea (Jackie Lomax).
Telemaniac July 28th, 2004, 03:36 PM And The Iveys was the original name for Badfinger. Apple wouldn't release their records in the US, and Paul Mc C suggested a name change - after all Ivy is GREEN - Lennon wanted to call them Glass Onion (this is before the White Album) and they were called Badfinger after a song called Badfinger Boogie.
Telemaniac July 28th, 2004, 03:36 PM Lots of this stuff in Shout! by Philip Norman which has just been reissued and updated, good read IMO.

reverbbb July 28th, 2004, 03:44 PM Great Apple Records trivia!
The devil is in the details sometimes. I got my information from a source that basically listed the Apple designations in order from Apple 1 to Apple 49. Apple 1 (Hey Jude) never actually appeared on the pressing, according to my source. They were still locked into the contract with EMI at that time.
I have another one (though I forgot the answer).
Do you remember what record displayed the Apple logo in white and not green?
I'm now curious about my source. It does not mention any of the other many Bealtes releases on singles. I know I had Ringo Starr, George Harrison, John & Yoko and Paul.
The most soulful recording I thought that Paul ever did, was the flip side of "Another Day". It was called "Oh Woman, Oh Why". I don't thik it ever appeared on any albums or got any US radio air play. VERY rough around the edges - I liked it a lot! Sort of like an intense version of "I Got A Feeling" (as far as Paul's voice was concerned).
reverbbb July 28th, 2004, 03:48 PM Paul also appeared on Donovan's "Mellow Yellow" song. Paull is the one that is doing all the 'woo, woo, woo' sounds and out of place voice overs towards the end and in the bridge.

They're green alright - actually processed marrowfat peas. Consistancy - really mushy as the name would suggest. Taste? Hard to describe: you gotta come to England and try 'em with our traditional dish - preferably Northern England where they fry the best fish 'n chips in the country. The mint flavoured mushy variety are probably the nicest? :)

reverbbb July 28th, 2004, 03:54 PM Paul has got to be the most lively of the Beatles.
Did anyone see the documentary that he and his daughter did about two years ago? It was fascinating and a must see for die-hard Beatles fans. Rare family film footage (Johns footage does not seem so rare in comparison).
At one point, Paul was reflecting about a time that his daughter asked why he was always so busy and leaving town all the time (or something to that effect). Pauls response to her was so profound to my ears - "I'm a songwriter . . . ". Man, the understatement of the century IMO. Paul was "the" songwriter that we can all be measured by IMO  .

As a somewhat dull-witted, yet curious Yank, what is this, O friends from the <font color=#00ff00>Green</font> and Pleasant Land (hat tip to Master W. Blake)? Is it some kind of malt vinegar product, or a sauce for the fish and chips, like the tomato sauce (or "ketchup/catsup" to us Yanks) we use on fish 'n' chips over here? (Nevermind--I just read your explanatory post above!) Mushy is as puzzling to me as this might be to you:

Telemaniac July 28th, 2004, 04:18 PM All the Apple non-Beatles serials were 1800 - 1885 (the Spanish Release of Gearge Harrison's This guitar
can't keep from crying) in the US, and Apple 2 (there is no Apple 1) to Apple 49 - which is the Dutch version of Badfinger's Apple in My Eye - in the UK.
The Beatles own records had different serials - four digits starting with 2 in the US and R**** in the UK. The discipline seems to disappear after Apple 49 and later US 18** serials have R**** UK equivalents.
US Beatles numbers have some weak logic:
2276 Hey Jude (UK is R5722)
2490 Get Back
2531 Ballad of John & Yoko
2654 Something
etc, etc.
so apart from 23 which is missing the first two numbers are consecutive. The idea that these were EMI numbers I hadn't heard but makes sense because they were still under contract.
And yes I did look most of this up!!!!

It is my understanding that nearly all Europeans dispise the thought of humans eating corn. To them, corn is reserved strictly for feeding livestock animals.
Hmm, I wonder why the Purvians, Aztecs and Incas of 2000 years ago were never told that bit of valuable information?
Telemaniac July 28th, 2004, 04:28 PM Do you remember what record displayed the Apple logo in white and not green?
Actually all the promo records had white labels.
Imagine and Now or Never (Yoko Ono) had white labels, possibly most of the Lennon/Ono ones as well. Dark Horse - the record by GH originally had a white label subsequently white and blue, and then this became the Dark Horse label.
But . . . which one had a blue label, and which one a white star, though?
We can get into real trivia here :)

I LOVE corn. In just about any form: creamed corn, hominy, popcorn, grits, corn meal--you name it. But, I think my favorite is good ol' corn on the cob...hot, with butter and salt. I guess that makes me an unsophisticated Yank?

Not so!! :D :D :D
If I was a betting man I would bet that all the Europeans on this board eat corn on the cob, jolly green giant-type canned corn, frozen corn and pop corn. Except perhaps salty popcorn, can't quite get the hang of that :(
We've even got one of those Donald Duck popcorn poppers - admittedly a few years ago when our children were small.

Silly me. That's the last time I'm listening to someone who lived in Germany. Then again, I don't suppose that Germany is representative of all of Europe either  .
As far as the star on the Apple logo, I remember seeing that. It seems that I may have also owned that one at one time. I'm guessing that is was a John & Ono disc. I remember wondering why it was the only one in my collection that had a star.
Popcorn: Not my cup of tea either. Except, you have to try some fresh popped kettle corn sometime. It's a bit like Cracker Jacks, only 100 times better and not nearly as sweet. We find it a lot at civic fairs here in the US. Vendors will literally have a huge (5 bussle?) kettle with a roaring flame under it. They through in some sugar as it pops. Somehow, it comes out perfectly delicious. Other than that, the kernals get caught in my teeth - that's the main reason I don't care for popped corn.

Mushy peas are Marrowfat processed peas that have been made...mushy.
They're not so much of a sauce as a side to a meal, in the same way you would have any type of vegetable, except mushy peas are considered part of fast food, and unlike peas do not taste in any way healthy.
Peanut butter is certainly not a mystery in Europe! You can buy it at any supermarket, its just that most people in Europe do not enjoy heaping brown gooey paste onto a piece of bread with jam on it (note NOT jelly J A M)

Don't come back any more or we fire arrows at the tops of your heads and make castanets out of your testicles already! Ha ha! And, if you think you got a nasty taunting this time, you ain't heard nothing yet! Silly English kuhhhhh-niggets! *thpbpbpbt!*

Then I read an article with John Jorgenson where he was praising the guitar....even put it on the cover of his newest solo album. Anyway, saw on on ebay, and bought it. I had to change the strings to Agentines, and actually file the fretslot on the low e so it would seat properly on the zero fret.....and she sounds really good. Really gets that sound....maybe not as sweet as the Duponts or Dell Arte's, but sounds great to me.

beez July 29th, 2004, 08:43 AM I bought a Gitane DG-255. I had been wanting a gypsy guitar for quite a while, but a good sounding guitar was $2000+.
I was searching and searching for a reference to <font color=green>green</font>, but never found it. I think I'm having a break down or something. Somebody help me out here - is there a <font color=green>green</font> reference to this post?
If not, I guess I'll be OK . . . . <font size=4>after</font> <font size=5>we</font> <font size=6>hit</font> <font size=7 color=green>500!!!</font> 8) .

I apologize for using the word "Gaellic" to describe the French guard; instead, I meant to use the word "Gaullic," which is an adjectival synonym for "French".
I deeply regret this error; should it occur again, please beat me senseless with a Funk and Wagnall's Collegiate Dictionary, or, frankly, any dictionary of your choice, provided there's enought heft in it to knock me senseless--which presupposes that I have sense to begin with, which I clearly don't.
So skip it; forget what I said. Just go on with what you were doing.
