I have a favor to ask of you guys. I am supplying a graphic to be placed under a clear pickguard by Bill. I have tortured Bill with so many details, i thought I would spare him this one. Could you tell me the max width and height of the pickguard so that i can have the graphic printed the appropriate size (so as not to cut off more of the graphic than necessary to fit under the guard). Thanks!

candybluecrook
April 10th, 2011, 07:42 AM
Not on this one. Im seriously thinking of having a burple colored tele made with a g and a b bender on it though. I haven't been able to put ny hands on a bender guitar, so I wasn't sure if id like it or even make very good use of it, if that makes any sense. I just didn't want to have the guitar set up for something I wasn't experienced with I guess. Do you use benders? I can easily hear when brad uses his, but I've never played a bender equiped guitar. How is it for u?

Sorry for takin so long to reply, this forum app on my droid is sorts tempermental. So benders, im not getting any on this guitar, im thinking of doing a burple, that's not a typo, house of colors burple, tele, and having it equiped with a b and g bender. How do the benders work? I've never had the opportunity to play a guitar with benders.

I've never had the opportunity to play a guitar with benders.

They're really great. The "Throw," or the arm that controls the bender is on the neck plate on the back. You connect your strap via a strap-lock onto the throw so that you have a good secure connections so you won't rip the strap off when bending. I have a G-Bender on both of my Crooks, for 2 reasons: 1) Brad has it, and uses it a ton, and I enjoy playing his songs 2) I love little trick things that people are thinking "How'd he do that?"

So the way it works (in a completely non-mechanical explaination, because I suck at techno-speak) is the throw is connected inside of the body that's been routed to a series of levers, and they work their way towards the bridge, where more levers are connected under the G-string (or B string if B-Bender). The end result is a small lever that acts like a saddle under the G-string. When you play a note, you PUSH down (or pull down, either way you want to say it, the neck goes toward the floor) and the strap does the work of pulling the bender upwards. This causes the levers to do their magic, and it actually moves that small saddle under the G-string just enough to increase the tension on the string, thus raising it 1 whole step. Release the tension on throw, it comes back down to normal pitch. That's the gist of it. Hope I wrote that in a non-confusing manner.

I understand perfectly. I too like to play brass material as well as sing it. Had to sound proof the house so the neighbors dogs would stop howling. Seriously I get paid to sing and play. Departure is one of my favorite instrumentals, as is munster rag. Nervous breakdown is fun too. It took me a day to get that down just so, and a few days to be able to do it error free. But I still goof every now and then.
So I talked to bill today and my tele is done except my back pup is yet to be installed. Its beautiful he says. The silver base had to be cleared before the candy blue could be applied. But its on there now and I can't wait to get pics, and play it, and love it, and call it..... ok I've gone too far. Can you tell im excited? I will have the check in the mail next payday. Dang house is killing me, and its only 3 years old!!!!!!! Im having dreams of teles and stuff at night. I gotta get this thing quick, my wife said I was playing her arm like a guitar lastnight in my sleep. This could get serious lol

Don't feel bad, I ordered a new pedal board that came in today. I was running late already, but I just HAD to open the box and look at it. I'm like an 8 year old trapped in a 25 year old body (but I feel 40).

candybluecrook
April 25th, 2011, 06:39 PM
Lol I hear that, what kind of pedal board did u get? I run an rp1000. Sounds good on my rig. Especially the new nashville 1000 that I just picked up, for 20$ lol. Had a cold solder joint in it lmao

hybridrocknroll
April 25th, 2011, 06:57 PM
Got a Gator Mega-Bone. Had the small Gator and loved it, but it didn't allow room for my 8 pedals. I will definitely be uploading a pic in the next 48 hours. I felt naked because I always use pedals, and haven't had a board in 2 weeks. Played at church with the Crook straight into my Dr. Z RxJr. Sounded amazing, but I missed my tuner.

candybluecrook
April 26th, 2011, 12:26 AM
How do those amps sound? I haven't gotten one on account of my primary amp being a pre cbs fender super reverb that was hot rodded and has a 15 inch lancing in place of the oxfords. Great guitar amp. The lancing is a d130. But that amp is great. Now I have the nashville 1000 that I picked up for 20$. And the hernia 500 I have is also a great amp. I can't wait to see which amp sings with the tele. I feel another night of playing coming on, I'll warn my beautiful and forgiving wife before I go to bed lmao.

hybridrocknroll
April 26th, 2011, 10:17 AM
The Z's are great. I got a Celestion Blue put in there and it really jangles. I always dug the Vox style amps, but I've played Fenders for most of my life (Stage 160, the a HRDx). I had a chance to play with a Z (Maz Jr.) at Richmond Music Center and fell in love with them. They didn't stock the RxJr, so I had to order it. It just has great response to pick attack and the bass response isn't too boomy when I get to higher levels. I play everything from country to jazz to punk rock, and it covers all of them with ease. It takes pedals really well too. The natural OD is EXACTLY what I was hearing in my mind that I wanted to sound like, so it had to be mine.

Side note: having a loving and understanding wife makes a huge difference. I found the perfect one that likes my playing and loves music, and supports most any musical endeavor I take on (except ordering another Crook...hazards of being an adult and paying the bills). I have my sights on a '68 replica...maybe not in the too distant future :-)

candybluecrook
April 26th, 2011, 01:46 PM
I completely agree with your statement about the importance of finding the right woman. Mine is very much like yours, in the liking my music and understanding my dreams and pushing me to go after my dreams, also in keeping me in check on the bills lol, but I have another anouncement, the burple tele is becoming a reality. Soon after getting my candy true blue crook, she is allowing me to have bill start the burple guitar. Now I have a billion other colors in my mind though. And this one is getting benders. So shoot me some ideas. Im actually kinda thinking I'll get a copy of old pink. Idk yet. Im spoiled I guess lol. What do u think?

hybridrocknroll

Hey its cool, so am I correct in the assumption that your in va? If im wrong I appologize, but I thought u said richmond. So your not far from bill, im all the way in southeast texas. I keep seeing all the weather around between me and my tele, it makes me nervous...... know what I mean? Lol

hybridrocknroll
April 27th, 2011, 02:40 PM
Yep, you're right. We're about an 8 hour drive from Bill. My dad and I did a little bonding trip to go get ours. His shop is smaller than most would expect.

candybluecrook
April 27th, 2011, 06:38 PM
To tell u the truth im worried sick about all the tornadoes, and the guitar having to make that trip. I know that my guitar is insured for the trip, but I can't stand the thought off something happening to my tele. Im thinking of seeing if I can have it overnighted for an additional fee. But I don't know if that's a good idea, the paint could react baddly, the truss rod... I guess I should just ask bill huh? Lol.
So his shop is on the top floor of another shop if I recall correctly. But that's what makes a crook a crook. You know when you buy the guitar that you get Bills attention to detail, and that almost is not good enough.
How did it feel the first time you laid hands on your crook? I've got a 59 paul, a 68, and a 76 paul deluxe. An 09 american standard Strat that I bought brand new. Let me tell u, I've never put my hands on a guitar and instantly felt "IT". You know what I mean? The Strat needed alot alot alot of work right from the get go. Fret leveling, tlhad the trem locked, I use more neck bends, truss adjustments, and just now am I liking the guitar. Just had to become friends with it lol

Thanx, I've heard they are like playing that certain guitar right out of the box. I can't wait to get my hands on it. And yeah im sitting here thinking about the paint now lol. But I will ask bill all of the important questions as far as that. He said to me once, treat the paint like you would a car. So I use meguires products on all of my guitars, hand rubbed each and every one with each and every step of the 9 step system, and wow, even my sweat stained pauls, they were that way when I got them, look like a million bucks. The sweat stains are gone, I used a dremmel and polishing wheels on the nickel, and well I just need to post a pic lol

candybluecrook
April 27th, 2011, 07:14 PM
Not a great pic, dang lighting lol. Now I know what bill meant lmao. That guitar had sweat stains and all sorts of crudd in the finish. Now its clear and only has the little nicks and dents that it had before I got it. Poor guitar wasn't treated very well.

Sorry to post pics of les pails in the crook owners forum, but it shows my point, sort of. I wish I had taken before pics.

I'm with lum, I was afraid of touching it at first because it was so perfect. After a few days of looking at it and holding it, I let loose, and it's been wide open ever since. No other guitar has compared to it, and I don't think any will. My dad's Red/Silver Paisley Crook is great, but there's nothing like your first Crook. It'll ruin your other guitars. I sold all my other guitars because I didn't need them anymore.

Bill will do the best he can, just because he put so much work and dedication into it. Trust in his wisdom, haha.

Hey Hybrid, no Wampler 65 OD on that board, I think its the best pedal he has made. I run two of them on mine, one a little less grit and the other one a little more maxed. Makes a Twin Reverb most enjoyable at a lower volume.

FINALLY EVERYTHING HAS FALLEN INTO PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that means its paid for and bill said it will ship Monday!!!!!! I can't wait. I know this is going to be the best guitar I own, And if you look at my profile you can see I own some pretty good axes lol.
So now I'm going out to buy a case of strings in the morning. I always play ernie ball stainless 9's, but I'm contemplating nickels. But on my Strat when I tried nickels they didn't sound as good to me. Some say stainless sounds to glassy, but to me the nickels sounded terrible like they had no midrange? Idk, I think alot of it has to do with a persons rig and personal preference. I've seen guitars sound like junk on one amp, and like a million bucks on another amp. That being said, this is my first tele, so Idk. If I don't like how they sound on the tele I will just have more strings for the Strat and one of the pauls.
Im not going to be able to sleep this weekend, or next week. God im immature, probably be checking the shipping status every 5 hours lol.

Glad to hear it brother! I know you'll enjoy it man, and I know the feeling of hating to wait that long. As far as strings, I use Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's. That's what Bill and Brad uses, so I just stuck with them. On a Brad note, see if you can guess what tele this is I'm holding (hint: it's EXACTLY the one you're thinking it is!):

We had a friend of a friend who could put us in the right spot and we caught one of the guys in the band (who I had spoken to several months back at an event my wife and I went to). All names and locations are protected for the innocent :-) It was unbelievable. We did the fan club thing and ended up front row. We were arms length from him 75% of the night. I'll share more pics later, but here's one told hold everybody on:

Knowing of course that sound is subjective to the person. " so it ships monday, all of this heat around here is my only worry. Today its 100+ down here. Man its hot.

Man my wife and I did the fanclub thing, and we got terrible seats. We were close but the problem was we had a stupid support pole right infront of us. I was ticked. There was people with far better seats than us, and we bought our tickets as soon as the sale opened, I had it done like 30 seconds after the opening of fanclub tix. It wasn't a great day.

My point is it did us no good to have fan club seats when people that had just bought their ticket at the door that day had better seats than we did when we bought our tix sorry, just noticed al my tix are reading fix. We bought ours in june, the concert happened in September, and tickets at the door were better than advanced fan Club tickets.

Picked mine up Friday but the wife wouldnt let me have it until Christmas morning. Now that I have this beauty I sustained a nasty laceration with soft tissue loss (thank God its not particularly deep) to the tip of my left index finger. Yes Im a right handed player. It really bums me out. Guess I will just keep tweaking my tone until the finger is healed. I will post pics as soon as I can (if I can figure out how to do that) so you guys can tell me how great it looks and pacify me as I wait to be able to play it again. I must say that the time I did spend playing it, it was like an old worn pair of shoes. It just felt right, like I have owned it forever-like it was made just for me (well it was, but it still feels much more special than I expected). My goals (in order) heal finger, dial in that tone in my head, do some recording with this awesome 6 string.

I'm looking to join this club sometime this year. Bill received my deposit just before Christmas. I was already excited, but based on what everyone else is saying, I can't wait!

Very cool. That Tele-Paul doesn't bring you bad luck like it did BP does it? He fell on stage with it, then the flood happened. It's a shame, it's a very cool looking axe. Is it just me, or is it easy just to stare at Crooks in amazement? They're like works of art. I've had mine for almost 7 years and I still just look at them in awe.

Exactly. The sparkle finish on both of mine are next to impossible to capture in a picture. Those are beauties man! What kinda specs/pups you got on 'em?

Both are 9.5 radius and have Adder neck pickps. The light blue T- style has a Voodoo T-59 bridge pickup. The Lesquier has a Dimarzio Fast Track T bridge..

I didn't add this here yet.. so... number 2 has been ordered. And its going to have a few slight differences from the first one. Nothing big, same pups, bridge setup, even color.... just going darker on this one.

Kicking around the idea of changing the neck radius to 12in. But I doubt it. #1 is my war horse.. but I will be sending it along to my father.... and taking #2 into my stable.

Already planing #3. A red sparkle... over gold and silver flake, or either or. And the color of red isn't nailed down yet either. I'm spoiled......

Here are my two Crooks. The Pink Paisley is the 1st production of Bill's Vintage Pink Paisley and the other is the prototype of the carbon fiber "corvette" guitar Brad Paisley played on the 2012 CMA Awards show. Absolutely flawless workmanship on both. These won't be my last from Bill.
