ugmold February 22nd, 2010, 10:15 AM Hi,
I have a Ovation Viper I'm putting together. It is to be wired with 2 mini-humbuckers, 1 vol, 1 tone.
I have a mini toggle (6 posts, says on-on-on, on the side) which was used by the PO, I cleaned the solder off the posts and checked for continuity post to post, and their was no continuity.
I assume I can wire this to work, which would be the typical 3 way, neck pup, both pups, bridge pup, but don't know where to start. I want to use this switch due to lack of space.
Thanks,
-ugmold
sjtalon February 22nd, 2010, 11:36 AM It's strange you don't get ANY continuity ??
Anyway here's a reference, check out the DPDT diagram "D" on/on/on:

ugmold February 22nd, 2010, 11:52 AM Maybe the switch is bad?
Looking at all that info kind of makes me dizzy, I wish had the room for a Gibson style switch, but don't.
I'll gladly head done to my Local Radio Shack if you could point me to a better switch.

ugmold February 22nd, 2010, 01:47 PM Looks like spdt is what I need.
Thanks.
garrett February 22nd, 2010, 08:17 PM The switch you have is fine, assuming it still works.
I've used this Seymour Duncan diagram to wire mine:
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=3ws_trans
And here's a simple explanation of the on-on-on:

As you'll see, because the two rows of poles don't connection to each other, you just run a jumper across the middle to get both pickups at once.
ugmold February 22nd, 2010, 08:57 PM Very Helpful,
Thank you Garrett
ugmold February 28th, 2010, 11:50 AM Wired it up yesterday and got some strange results. First off I have to point out that I am using Artec mini humbuckers with 5 leads, same color code as in the Duncan schematic which Garrett pointed me to.
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=3ws_trans
I wired my mini toggle switch like the other schematic Garrett pointed me to, bottom image.

All is mounted on the pickguard, but not on the Viper body. So by tapping the pickups with a jewelers screwdriver, plugged into the amp of course, the switch has both pickups on in all 3 settings, tone changes in settings, tone control seems to work, and vol control is also like a tone control? It buzzes.
I decided to go to Radio Shack and get a new switch. Grabbed a SPDT switch, got home to find it only had 2 positions......geezzzzzz, dummy.
Any ideas? I can't find a wiring schematic for this particular Artec pup?
Thanks,

ugmold March 12th, 2010, 10:10 AM BUMP:
So, let me start over. I have 2 mini humbuckers, each have a positive and negative lead. I want to use a mini switch due to space issues. I have one volume and one tone. What "type" of mini switch do I buy? And how do I hitch up the wires?
Thanks in advance, I have followed the schematics and now think that my switch might be bad.
