Another Bad Bob Fan .....

I've been messing with the Bad Bob at home for a while. Decided to test it at the gig these last 2 nights. Gotta say I'm really pleased!

Can't compare it to others, as I've not tried them. Prior, I had been using a Keeley Compressor for clean boost (miss that thing, shouldn't have sold it).

But the BB is really great. As so many others have stated, it's got tons of boost on tap. Adds a little bit of "hair", as well.

The setup ..... Fender '98 Collector's Tele into the BB into a TS-808 RI into the '64 Vibroverb Custom RI.

As the gig required a lot of different sounds (we play everything from bluegrass to Merle to Dylan to ZZ Top to Pink Floyd to blues), I used the BB in 2 ways .....
- for clean boost when required for solos (country, bluegrass, ballads)
- to push the TS-808 for that little extra when needed (rock, SRV, etc.)

As a clean boost, it was great. Fattened up the tone in a good way, and added a little "sparkle" or something (so hard to put sounds into words).

When used to push the 808, it really sounded great! Again, it fattened up the tone and kinda cut through the "muddiness" that you sometimes get with a TS type pedal. Every note was fat and articulate, and the notes on the low strings were punchy and clear. Outstanding!

Overall, I'm really pleased. And I can't wait to gig with the BB as straight boost on all the time to slam the front end (like a blues gig or jam where I don't need different levels of gain for different styles).

As always, your mileage may vary .....

Usual disclaimers ..... not a shill, don't work for or with the Bad Bob people, paid full price, etc. ....

Cheers,
BK

Hi! I think I made my decision after reading your message. :D
I also read a lot of BB stuff on TDP and by all reviews, I think this is what I need, or guess I need :? ī
As it is now when Iīm playing at a gig I just have my Tele RI-52 with Bardens or a Onyx Forge custom tele through a TS-9 and into a DRRI-65. It ainīt bad but sometimes I would like some x-tra to add. Especially if itīs a song with pretty much overdrive in the comping(which means git.volume at max) then it becomes hard to add something when soloing. Oh....I can always turn around, play some hammer on-hammer off and crank up the volume :D :D :D

The problem is....I cant try it, havnīt seen it in Sweden
But I think i buy it anyway

Believe it or not, but I swear it's true......back on Feb 1 of this year, I bought mine from Mike @ Analogman.com
and the battery that came with the unit is still in the unit and no-where near ready to be replaced. We are talking 5 months on the same battery!!! Although I don't use the booster every single day, it most definately gets used several times a week. Either way, to get 5 months out of a 9-volt battery in any kind of effect is amazing in my book. The unit is also fully transparent which was very important to be before I bought it. The other thing I love is the fact that the unit only has a single knob on it. I hardly ever use effects at all, but the Bad Bob is a unit that absolutely delivers everything I need in a booster unit..........Great job Randy Wallace in building these, and also for Mike at Analogman.com for giving superb service all around.

We need to get together and do a test between the Bad Bob and the RC Boost. I'd be real interested to hear how those two compare.

Does the Bad Bob have the ability to plug in a power supply? Or do you have use a battery exclusively? Just wondering.

Yes you can power it off of an AC adaptor such as the Boss PSA120, Voodoo Lab Pedal Power, etc.
