VOX VT50 lovers out there?longbow January 23rd, 2010, 10:48 AM Just upgraded the VT30 I bought yesterday to the 50 series. Anybody else play through these? Let me know the dope on them. thanks longbow January 25th, 2010, 06:37 PM So no VT50 lovers here ha. Well guess what me neither cause I took it back and got my VC50 back. What the hell is with all those sounds anyways on it? I was trying some of the effects today on it and I have to say some worked ok and others just totally muddied up the tone. Nope give me some nice EL84's heating up and shaking baby, cause that is what gives me the blues. that's it. Aussie Matt January 25th, 2010, 06:48 PM Not a VT50 but I play through an AC15. Just trying to help you out there. I love the simplicity of the AC15 but more than that, I love the Tele/Vox sound! TeleTim911 January 25th, 2010, 10:52 PM I've got one, love it. So far, I've not even begun to explore all the possibilities this thing will do, it's amazing. madog93 January 26th, 2010, 06:45 AM I bought a VT50 a few weeks ago and hated it. The learning curve on that thing was very steep for me. To me it just didn't make much sense. I even went on their website and looked at other users settings for different tones. I got my money back and bought a Vypyr Tube 60. It is much easier to understand and you can actually set it to the amp you want and push the button to go either clean or lead and then the setting are pretty easy to tweak. I really wanted to buy a Hot Rod Deluxe, but I couldn't afford it. My wife thinks I spent way too much as it is. One of these days I will have an all tube Fender amp, but in the meantime the Twn setting and Dlx setting on the Vypyr sound pretty good. longbow January 26th, 2010, 05:52 PM I couldn't agree more. I was trying some of the effects and I have to tell ya that they about squashed any sound coming out of the amp. Just to wierd for me too. Not only that but the gain knob acts as the power or volume boost on the amp. So, well most of the amp models I had to run the gain passed 12 o'clock to get a good loud sound from the speaker. The models passed 11 o'clock definetly need the gain turned up even passed 12. Now what I might do is go back and get the 30 watt. I thought that had a much better presence believe it or not. Definelty punchier sounding to me. Hard to be a real tube driven amp though no matter what anyone says. Witness my VC50. thanks Fearnot January 26th, 2010, 07:24 PM I have an AD30 and never had any trouble deciphering it. Can't imagine what the complexity is, except I do wonder why it has a Master Volume and an attenuator on the back. Seems redundant to me. But I've quit expecting any amp to sound great at 'bedroom levels'... you have to rattle a few windowpanes to sound great. longbow January 27th, 2010, 05:22 AM I agree and that was the one big ***** I had with the amp when I first plugged it in. I keep my amps in the TV room with my guitars. The special effects just aren't all they are cracked up to be. Never used on any other amp I own cause they don't have them. Not even a peddle. Well did use a tube screamer on my VC20 but it doesn't really need it so it has set there on the floor for about 2 years now unused. I just like tubes that's all there is to it. I am thinking maybe getting and trying the VOX amp and cab combo. That seems pretty simple and it has a 12" speaker and the atenuator on it. thanks LOSTVENTURE December 28th, 2010, 01:23 PM They are complicated, and as someone mentioned earlier, the learning curve is quite sharp. This seems to be a trend, as far as the modelling amps are concerned. Recently while looking at a number of these amps, I found out that you had to download the manual (free fortunately) and get famaliar with the controls before you even turned the thing on. I did just that for the Fenders, the Peavey Vypyrs, the Line-6 amps, and for the Vox. They all have their little quirks, but the VT50 had a sound very comperable to my Super. End of search. I'm still learning the thing, one step at a time, and I can tell you that you have to be very subtle with the effects controls. So far I'm thinkng I chose the right amp, and it's almost 20 pounds lighter than the my average tube models. I might note that you can get some good buys on the VT line since it's about to be replaced by the VT+ series. Televised December 28th, 2010, 01:53 PM I really like my Vox AD30 VT, (now my son's), but would recommend spending some time with the manual or the freebee manual you could download off the internet. It is fairly stright forward and user friendly. Once I "rebooted" the amp and got familiar with a few settings it worked just fine. I also found this site helpful for giving you a large variety of settings to try with the amp: http://www.valvetronix.net/valvetronix/DA15/AD15-30-50-100/model_1_date_1.html After I became familiar with the amp and a few settings I was happy with it but did have initial buyer's remorse when I first purchased it. I think the only real difference with the AD50 is the increased wattage, increased speaker size, and you have a line out to attach speaker cabs direct. Good Luck! blowtorch December 28th, 2010, 02:15 PM I play an AD50VT and I love it. I can't imagine a more versatile amp. I really would like to check out the new "+" series. p90grinder December 30th, 2010, 04:19 PM I still have a VT50, although it may go up for sale soon. I was able to tweak the blackface model on it to sound almost exactly like my Vibrolux, so that was nice. The effects were for the most part unusable for me. Since I now have several tube amps (Valvetrain, Victoria, Marshall and Fender) it has become redundant and gets very little use. Seems reliable though, if a trifle complex. JonnyM March 10th, 2011, 04:08 PM I still have a VT50, although it may go up for sale soon. I was able to tweak the blackface model on it to sound almost exactly like my Vibrolux, so that was nice. Seems reliable though, if a trifle complex. For the most part I'm with you, yet that is "why" I'm keeping it. I worked up one patch that I REALLY like and I often don't even bother to get out the two button pedal. When I do I can get two additional patches, one that I've long ago preprogrammed to be a boosted, more in your face sound to use in contrast to my main patch, and the third is to just go manual so whatever strikes me as interesting that particularly day. The only effect I use is the reverb. I like a it a little wet. Reliability seems a given, SO FAR, obviously if the computer in there ever goes I'm toast. It seems to built pretty ruggedly. Basically I now use it for any practice or new situation where I don't know the parameters of the other musicians as I know I'll be able to get a good sound and be able to keep up with anybody, any drummer with needing to be mic'd. Meanwhile next gig I'll be running two Fender Champs in Stereo with the Vox standing by right next to them in reserve. basher March 10th, 2011, 04:34 PM No problems at all with my AD50VT. It's kind of unexpectedly gotten to be my workhorse. Not the sexiest amp in the world, but it gets the job done and I'm really happy with the sounds I get from my settings. Astro1176 March 10th, 2011, 04:36 PM AD50VT here, really like it. Lightlord June 4th, 2011, 01:10 AM Glad that , for the ones of you having good luck with your Vox's , good for you ! I have had a Vox VT50 for two years and it has just gone crazy ! Sound drops completely , other times dies slowly , with cracking noise , many online have suggested cures , I tried them , even replaced tube first shot , did not work . I could go on ..... just don't get one , maybe the new ones have been corrected ....... I am pissed about it ...... lareplus January 13th, 2012, 02:08 AM Has anyone upgraded the speaker in one of these amps? I think I'd like to get more decibels and a bigger sound. . .what do you recommend? ( if you've done it yourself ) |
