martinsecrest January 13th, 2010, 08:16 PM I've got a Tele and some Gibsons, haven't had a Strat since I was a kid (had a '63 Sunburst long ago, that's a sad, story), but I'm starting to experiment with some surf sounds with the guys I'm playing with, and have decided I want to pick up a Strat.
I love the Strat in seafoam green, which may be the coolest color ever, with a maple neck. I am just starting to research this, but what's the best recently made, reasonably acquirable guitar that fits this description? Do they make this combination in the 60's reissue series? I'm looking for a guitar $1k or less, in excellent condition, and one that I'll be happy with for a long time. Thanks for your input.
MrDJoers January 13th, 2010, 08:23 PM Try a fender mexican classic players series guitar. They come in the color/neck/pricing options you want, and don't be fooled by the word "mexico" 'cuase they really are nice instruments.

Me too, so I made this one from new parts years ago.
Maybe this one I built is going to make you go ohh, ahh.

WD Alder body, MightyMight V Neck back when I would but a Mighty might neck [MIK]
57/62 Fender PUPs, Fender Vintage Trem with huge Steel block, same as the EC Strat uses. It cost a lot to make it, 100.00 Trem, 100.00 PUP, 120.00 neck, 200.00 body.. you get the idea...
Worth it though...

Just me, but 2 point trem, yuk!
martinsecrest January 15th, 2010, 12:43 PM What are the main differences between the '57 and '62 AVRI guitars as currently made? Best years for these reissues?

For the most part Maple or Rosewood, pups and electronics are the same.
2000 and on might be some of the best years for them.
Look at the "thin-skins' as well, very nice.
If you want better then that, look at a Custom Shop team built RI. I've seen some of those at VERY REASONABLE prices these days.
