Calling all JV Strat owners with their original Tex Mex pups, curious as to where you found the pups' sweet spot.
Still experimenting here, but I'm about 1/8" on the treble side and 5/32" on the bass side...I've had them lower, but they loss too much presence.
So...where are yours at ?

I had a heck of a time trying to get mine to sound right.
The JV had the best neck but zero bottom end at least mine did. SO I tried 4 sets and combos of pickups.
CS69's
Fat 50's
57/62ri
The CS69's had a good neck but the middle and bridge sounded too thin + they werent rwrp.
SO I tried the Fat 50's the middle sounded good neck didnt sound as clean as the CS69 and the bridge was too thin.
Then I tried the 57/62's the bridge sounded great the neck didnt sound as good as the cs69 and the middle sounded good but wasnt rwrp.
SO I tried the pickups that sounded the best in each position.
CS69 neck Fat 50's mid and 57/62 bridge.
It sounded pretty good with that combo but still no bottom end.
SO I went back to the stock pickups and they actually sounded the best in THAT guitar.
WHat I should have done was sell the body and buy an ash or alder one.
I never could get mine to sound right to me so sold it but it did have the best neck of any guitar I have ever owned.

John,
My JV has the neck and middle pickup covers about a nickel's height above the pickguard on the bass side, and just a little higher on the treble side.
The bridge pickup cover is level, about two nickels high - and I nearly always have the bridge tone on about 6.
But as you know I do like a warmer, jazzy kinda tone...
