Anyone out here in TDPRI land ever buy or try or hear this brand of pickup? They have an interesting selection on eBay (and a soon to be up website as well)

They're selling these "Retrotron" pickups whick look an awful lot like the Reverend "Revtron" pickups in their new Wolfman series of guitars.

These look pretty darn cool for the price.

I haven't tried them, but I was just about to post the same question.

These also look interesting.

I believe I'll order those "boutique" alnico strat pups...I want to try something else in my Jimmie Vaughan strat that has a little vintage magic, not this Tex Mex pups, in this guitar, they lack sparkle.

Let's keep this GFS post moving.

i have a pair of the Fat PAF's and i gotta say that they are shockingly good...i put them in an Ibanez Artist A-50 that has been problematic finding a good pickup for...the Ibanez Super 58s were thin and fedback like crazy...Duncan Seth Lover's were an improvement but had kind of a mid suck-out that i didn't care for (and they fed back as well) Duncan Custom Custom, DiMarzio Virtual PAF, Fralin and Van Zandts were all good but still not inspiring in this particular guitar...not only was it getting frustrating but it also is no gun to keep changing pickups on a semi-hollow body! The GFS's sound warm, smooth and articulate, and, absolutely no feedback issues!...they are very dynamic and balanced nicely with clear open mids and highs...the bass is solid with no mush...another thing i really like is how well the set is callibrated--great balance between neck and bridge! these guys have really done their homework...i have a whole drawer of boo-tique pickups and these GFS are as good and, in many cases, much better than the far more expensive ones IMHO...i am currently ordering some single coils and can't wait to hear them! Highly recommended!

I just put a "Dream 90" in the neck position of a Guild Bluesbird and it's a really nice pickup. Sounds like a clean, articulate P-90. Better than the Duncan Phat Cats at about 1/4 the price.

Brad, sounds like you had a heck of time with that Ibanez! Glad you found something to work in it. Thanks for the report. I may have to try a few of these.

I just got a pair of the GFS Dearmond-style single coils (the 6120s). I was hoping they would sound good, but I had no idea they would sound this great. I put them into my Dearmond m75 and they totally brought the guitar to life. The stock pickups are okay, but a little muffled on the low end and really hot in the midrange. Like a cross between a P90 and a screaming two-year-old child and really hard to balance. The GFS are beautifully balanced and sound amazing: clear highs, really tight and punchy low-end. They can go from Cliff Gallup to Malcolm Young effortlessly. That guy Jay was a real pleasure to deal with and he shipped them immediately. These are the only GFS pickups I can vouch for, but vouch for 'em I sure do.

how much trouble would it be to put those in a tele? I know it would take a little routing. they look narrower than a humbucker.

also how does the dearmond style pickups sound on a tele.i have always wanted a tele with these style pickups but never seen one.

the reverends are about as close as i have seen

The TeleSonic came with DeArmonds, right?

I've got two GFS pickups right now - a MiniHumbucker and one of the 'Vintage Alnico 48' Tele bridges... The Mini is going in the neck of a Tele I'm building (my first project!). I gave it a quick tryout before I started finishing the wood, and it sounds great. I don't have alot of experience with MiniHums, but it seems to be able to handle what I need...

The "vintage" bridge pup I won as a fluke, and don't really have a need for it. It's up in the garage sale, if someone wants to try the GFS' out for cheap...

I have recently put a pair of Retrotron Nashvilles, with outside singles/bucker/inside singles coil switching, in a strat.

They are excellent. They are a bit hotter than most filtertrons. Because of that, playing with the volume, tone pots really do something, and with the coil switching, a versatile gretsch tones pallette.

I put together a quickie webpage for those so interested:

that details a bit.

Nice guitar Billy Bob Joe! It never ceases to amaze me what finds us when we don't want it! Like the ol mutt that follows us home. So ugly, no one wants it.....then it becomes the best dog you ever had.

Anyway, I enjoyed your guitar and the comments. Thanks.

Nice guitar Billy Bob Joe!

It has a matching blue headstock, with black tuners. I have some chrome. When I replace strings, flats GHS rock n roll set #750, I will put three chrome tuners on there, stagger black, chrome, black, etc., as a fininishing touch.

It never ceases to amaze me what finds us when we don't want it! Like the ol mutt that follows us home. So ugly, no one wants it.....then it becomes the best dog you ever had.

I've been playing over 40 years now. I have had some equip., guitars. This one is my all time fav.

Anyway, I enjoyed your guitar and the comments. Thanks.

My pleasure.
