hi all,
my first post in the bass place.

i sold my long scale j-bass and bought a short scale bronco bass,
because the old hands are goin' south but i still want to play.

the bronco handles easily enough, but the pickup leaves much to be desired.

do any of you more experienced experimentists know of a full range and articulate pickup that will simply "drop in" to the existing pickguard opening?

thanks in advance for any ideas, and good week,
mj

You're in luck, any Strat-sized pickup will fit!

I put one of these GFS "Lil' Killer" twin rail pickups (http://store.guitarfetish.com/lilkicrhurap.html) in my Musicmaster Bass (same as a Bronco Bass), and it worked very well:

another vote for rail type pups. i have a BL 250 in my musicmaster, it works a lot better than the stock pup.

The problem with the Bronco (and old Musicmaster) bass pickup is that it is not a bass pickup, but a 6 pole guitar pickup. Aero Instrument winds true 4 pole pickups to fit the Music master (and also the Bronco).

http://www.aeroinstrument.com/pickups.html

The pickup is 1/2 way down the page, and they call it the Musicmasterer.
They ain't cheap though: $120.00

Email them and they will give you the specs and tips for install in a Bronco.
I plan on putting one in my Bronco after changing to a 4 pole adjustible Musicmaster bridge (a direct bolt on), and a new nut.

slotord is right, fender just uses a flatpole strat type pup in these basses. so any strat sized sc pup will work.
