hello, I recently have been wondering wich is the proper pickup hight.

A lot of people say that the closest to the strings, the better. But in my strat that kind of setup give me too much gain, and it sounds to heavy.

Rigth now i got them far from the strings and it sounds a lot better, with more body

What do you think?

SRV had his pickups far away from the strings - he would just turn up the volume. Having them close allows the magnets to pull on the strings lessening sustain - well it worked well for SRV - good enough for me - mine are very low - far away from the strings.

This may be a little weird, but on my Teles I have them as high as they will go and on my Strats they are a lot lower. Probably triple the distance. That's just what works for me.

I keep my pickups lower than most others do. Keeping the lower works better for my tone, touch and style.

Other guitar players I konw have their pickups as close to the strings as they can get them....and it sounds killer. Just experement and find what works for you.
