Control Plate ProblemMJR_Strummer December 31st, 2009, 11:41 AM I got a control plate from GFS and my CTS pots won't fit in it. How do I widen the holes so that they go in? Jack Wells December 31st, 2009, 11:46 AM You GFS control plate is from Asia and is made for the small Asian pots. You need 3/8 in. holes for the CTS pots. A 3/8 in. drill bit in a drill press with the plate clamped down is the best method for enlarging the holes. It could also be done with a round file or a tapered grinding stone in a electric hand drill or a 3/8 in drill bit in an electric hand drill. If drilling, it's important to clamp the control plate securely and go slowly. When enlarging holes like this by drilling, the bit can sometimes grab the workpiece and start spinning it. MJR_Strummer December 31st, 2009, 11:48 AM Alright thanks. And thanks for the quick reply man. bossaholic December 31st, 2009, 11:59 AM An easier fix would be to buy some asian pots from Stewmac, or buy a US Made control plate to fit your CTS Pots. jkingma December 31st, 2009, 12:37 PM If drilling, it's important to clamp the control plate securely and go slowly. Better yet, screw it down to a piece of scrap board thru the mounting holes at the ends of the plate. Jack Wells December 31st, 2009, 01:11 PM Good idea there birddog01 December 31st, 2009, 01:49 PM JWells gives solid advise. Drill press is what I did with mine. Didn't get it from GFS but must have got the same version. Guess I really didn't expect much for $4.87 tho. Boss, I don't think getting Asian pots is an easier fix, the whole process took less that 2 minutes including chamfering the holes. Besides, how would he know the holes were to small if he didn't already have CTS pots like I did. Wally originalmatthew December 31st, 2009, 03:39 PM I throw a piece of masking tape over the control plate so I don't scratch the chrome with an errant drill bit. MJR_Strummer December 31st, 2009, 04:48 PM I used a file and it worked fine. Thanks guys. jimdkc January 1st, 2010, 02:45 AM I used a step bit on mine... Jim sprokett January 1st, 2010, 10:27 AM Better yet, screw it down to a piece of scrap board thru the mounting holes at the ends of the plate. Now why didn't i think of that. Thank you jkingma customgaz January 26th, 2010, 06:07 AM does anyone know whether it will still be a 3/8 in. drill bit for esquire pots? Cheers. Gaz |
