US Tele Body Cavity Specs?

Hello Everyone,

I have an 2000 American Series Tele with stock tele neck/bridge pickups. I just opened it up a few days ago to do some shielding and install some pickups and found the cavity was routered to accommodate a humbucker (in the neck position) and a middle pickup option. I just wanted to know if this was standard spec on American Series (not that there's much I can do about it now). And is the rational for this so that you can tweek out your tele with different pickups and stuff? Just thought it was interesting since none of the American Series have middle pickup options...

Thanks!

I have 2 American Series Teles (2000 and 2001 SN's), and both of them are routed like yours. I put a SD Firebird-style mini-HB in the neck slot of one and a SD Phat Cat (P90 in HB format) in the other. I haven't used the middle slot yet, as I prefer 2 pickups on my guitars. BTW, both of my AmSe Teles came stock with shielding paint in the cavities and a cavity ground wire hookup, so I doubt you will hear a huge improvement with additional shielding. I shielded the pickguard on one of them at one point and the effects were minimal at best.
