Just wondering... when my finger touches my pickguard, there is a static electricity crackle every time i rub against it

That is probably just static electricity.

Raise the humidity level in your house.

A quick fix is to rub the pickguard with one of those sheets of fabric softener that you normally would toss into the dryer to prevent static cling. I am not making this up.

You can also put one of the dryer sheets under the pickguard and never worry about that problem again.

Seems like I've read that polishing the pickguard will help? What about sheilding the back side of it, anyone know?

What do you do, just cut it the same size as the pickguard and screw it back on?

Shielding the back of the pickguard will definitely bleed off the static. While you're at it, shield the cavities to eliminate hum. It really works. :)

Look up "Quieting the Beast's Cousin" (aka Tele) at guitarnuts.com You can thread your way there via my site if you like.

Cheers.

Make sure you ground the shielding on the back of the pickgaurd though.
It will cure the static.

I have had that same problem. In Colorado it's real dry and static builds up in everything. Here's what I did:

1.) shield the back of the pickguard
2.) I ran a ground wire from my pickguard to the volume pot.
3.) Dryer sheets helped me a little too

I have a very clean sound (which is new because i can't stand to color my tele's awesome sound with effects since i bought it) and when i strum it crackles and its really annoying. Thanks for all the suggestions and i'll keep you updated on the shielding project im working on!
