On a recent tele I built whenever I turn the tone to full it cuts the volume off completely  Has this happened to anyone before, any ideas what could be the cause?

Tone cuts volumeLeigh December 28th, 2009, 06:46 AM On a recent tele I built whenever I turn the tone to full it cuts the volume off completely  Has this happened to anyone before, any ideas what could be the cause? Leigh sjtalon December 28th, 2009, 07:41 AM What value capacitor do you have. Is the tone pot terminal grounded (with the cap) ? How did you wire the vol and tone pot? http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/Electronics/Switches/i-4000/i-4000_5.html http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdf_temp1/telecaster/0135102B/SD0135102BPg2.pdf Leigh December 28th, 2009, 07:56 AM Thanks for those links. When I get home this afternoon I will double check the value and take a photo of the wiring. Thanks Leigh December 28th, 2009, 11:01 AM It has been wired up like in this diagram, but I have used a 4 way switch. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/jwells393/NewAlbum2/Tele4-waySwitch.jpg The cap is a .047uF 400v sprague orange drop. Has a tele bridge pickup and a mini humbucker in the neck if that helps? tdowns December 28th, 2009, 02:54 PM If the tone cap lead touches the grounded pot in the area I point out with the arrow, that could certainly make it do that. 37418 Leigh December 28th, 2009, 05:50 PM Thanks Terry, I just took a look but nothing is touching. But I noticed that the cap lead is attached to the connector on the left (as shown on the diagram and the wire connecting the volume is attached to the centre lug. That is the only difference to the diagram. Could this be a cause? Thanks again tdowns December 28th, 2009, 06:31 PM Thanks Terry, I just took a look but nothing is touching. But I noticed that the cap lead is attached to the connector on the left (as shown on the diagram and the wire connecting the volume is attached to the centre lug. That is the only difference to the diagram. Could this be a cause? Thanks again No. It will work OK either way. The cap is either shorted or the cap terminal that is not supposed to be grounded is grounded by mistake. Leigh December 28th, 2009, 07:14 PM Ok thanks, I'll take check all my connections. I'll try another cap as well, see if that also makes a difference. |
