Mesa Boogie Subway Club

I own a subway rocket w/o reverb. It's my main amp mostly because its my only amp but its a great practice amp and I can even use it when playing with a drummer. Two channels and plenty of tonal possibilities. I don't ever see much information about these online so if you're a proud owner of one of these cool amps post something about yours.

I've got two of the non-reverb models, and one with. Plus, a Subway Blues. Plenty loud, I just wish the effects loop was series instead of parallel and that it was footswitchable.

I was messing around with the effects loop today using a boss rv-3 reverb pedal. I turned the balance knob on the pedal all the way up and blended the wet/dry signals with the balance knob on the amp's effects loop. It worked well except for the crappy pedal. Something tells me I'm missing out by not having the onboard reverb.

You really want a piece of rack gear to use in the effects loop in this case.

Just got an F-50 yesterday - never thought I'd be a Mesa guy, but having looked on the inside of almost every production amp at one time or another, they are built like tanks.

I was looking for something affordable on the used market with a Fendery clean tone and 6L6's that wasn't name "hotrod" in the PCB market. I was and am blown away by this amps tones on both channels. I guess it's one of Mesa's most stripped down models ever, which is good for me. I looked hard at the used Fender SF market, but didn't really want a twin, though this thing's probably as loud. The thing is, this is a real easy grab and go amp, no pedals needed, just the footswitch. I use real clean setting anyway ands then just use the 2nd channel as a lead boost.

It's a very touch sensitive amp and I'm totally in love with it. Really amazing how heavy it is for how small it is. As a part time amp tech I've never seen a tougher PCB board than Mesas. Even tougher than the 3000+ Bogner I had which was nice, but didn't really have those classic Fender tones on tap - this does. It seems Mesa markets so much to the metal crowd lately, people forget how nice their other amps are. They are still a very high quality builder and I daresay, possibly the highest mass produced one.

Worth every dime and I feel I really got a bargain at 600 bucks. The amp is very versatile.

It's so funny that chabby brought this thread back from the dead. I've been jonesing to get a Subway Blues again. I had one years ago and loved it. It's the only amp I've ever had that made me go "Why'd I Sell That?"

Now I'm lurking around EBay looking for a good deal.

Yeah I'm a convert and whats even better the F-50 needs no pedal for most jams of all genres except metal which i dont play anyway. Most beautiful clean I've heard since the musicman and Carr Rambler I played recently. Hard to beat 6L6's, but really hard to beat 6L6's in this amp. Rather than volume/master it has gain/master on each channel contour and revrb is footswicthable as are the channels. I could see maybe needing a wah wah for slide. But I'm not even sure I need a compressor with this thing. Chewy, touch sensitve cleans on tap that remind me of 65 Princton BF or Allen Hot Fudge, but stays clean to loud volumes if need be. Also has a slick little mute button for headphone jams without waking the neighbours-lol! Most important of all it loves my Tele. Does the jangly shimmery thing to tweed and BF tones....what more does a fender lover need? Funny, this amp is prolly 8 years old and looks brand new, it was a church amp adn never cranked. I shoould prolly go through it, but it doesn't sound like I need to hurry.
Best 600 I ever spent. This amp for how loud it gets seems equally at home in the bedroom, thats a hard thing to have. Oh...it also has a recording loop and effects loop and two 4ohm speaker jacks along with the 8ohm on board speaker which blasts.
The thing is built to last a couple lifetimes. I was also lucky the guy retubed it for the sale. Even though he used JJ's they sound remarkably good (wouldnt have been my pick)

My F-50 sure is. I would think the subway being of EL84 psersuasion would be fine with, or without some tweaks. Especially when you consider brad paisley and others are using EL84 based voxes and Dr Z's

.As long as you don't add to much gain and keep it clean and biased with the right resistor should be okay, they are loud enough. Hell, with Mics and PA everything is loud enough. Is the subway tube rectified or SS? Either way should work just fine for country with the right setting and a Tele. zOne trick to try is using a 1/2 cocked wah to get the more trebly tones to cut through.

Depens on rectfier sag too which is controllable with tweaks.

If you check out the Manual (http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Subway%20Blues.pdf) (PDF page 7), the Mid control works as a gain boost above about 1:00.

So long as you keep the Mid knob at 12:00 or below, you'll get the maximum headroom out of the amp. If that's not enough, you might try a lower gain preamp tube in V1. Mine came with an angry little 12AX7 in V1. When I swapped in a more 'well-adjusted' tube headroom increased.

An absolutely fantastic grab-n-go amp!

I just bought one today, well I put it on layaway today. I'm just going to pick it up tomorrow. Clean but used with a few light marks. Played great and had fresh tubes and the foot switch. I miss my old DC5 head and this is going to be my new base amp for recording.

Plus, I can use it as a slave for my Tweaker head. Can't wait.

Picked her up today to celebrate MLK!

Has an Eminence Redcoat 12" in it and I can't wait to get off shift and get her home. Have a feeling this thing is going to get along with my ASAT special very well!
