You sure you're not a Londoner? sunkidd November 30th, 2009, 06:56 PM I have 12 Alamo amps... I really like them, but don't play them much.... really should sell a few... kinda collected them on accident... here are four of them.... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/sunkidd/Alamos.jpg Kid Klash December 1st, 2009, 01:29 PM Too cool guys! I don't have an Alamo amp, but I do have two Alamo Fiesta guitars... one is a primo white dual pickup "six-in-line" guitar, and the other is a single pickup "duckfoot" basket case that was given to me a few years ago by a forum member over at the HCEG forum. The white one was my second guitar, and I got it when I was 15 years old. She's a GREAT player, especially for slide. RodeoTex December 1st, 2009, 06:43 PM Were Alamo amps made by the same company that made Alamo guitars? They were located in San Antonio, TX. I ended up with some necks and bodies and 1 new case that an old guy there had bought when the factory went out of business. I love their first edition wood cabinet amp with the fancy "A" cut out for the front grille! I've attached two photos of this type of amp (which I wish I had). The neck on my basket case is pretty messed up... not sure if I can salvage it or not. If you're interested in selling one of your necks, PM me with the details. RodeoTex December 1st, 2009, 07:38 PM Sorry Kid, I had like 2 necks, one body, one case and several parts of incomplete trem units and a pickguard or two. I know I gave the case away and I think I threw all the other stuff away eventually since there wasn't enough to make a single guitar. I'll look this coming weekend when I go out to the ranch and will send you anything 'Alamo' I find but I don't think there is anything left. redhed51 December 2nd, 2009, 09:35 AM No Alamo amp here but I do have an Alamo Fiesta guitar exactly like my first electric guitar back in the sixties. The old gal is nice! http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t301/reddak98/My%20Guitars/073.jpg Kid Klash December 2nd, 2009, 12:46 PM Sorry Kid, I had like 2 necks, one body, one case and several parts of incomplete trem units and a pickguard or two. Great tube tone, and probably the best 'Tremolo' effect I have ever used. Alamo December 2nd, 2009, 07:09 PM You called? yeah, I remember the Alamo ;) http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b237/open-g/Alamo.jpg Pawdog December 2nd, 2009, 07:33 PM I saw one thread about an Alamo Embassy. I have an Alamo Challenger (like a tweed Champ) with a Weber 10F150T. Anybody else playing an Alamo amplifier? I have a 1969/70 Alamo Galaxy, model 2571.......Great playing little 2X10 amp and really nice reverb! Had it about 15 years since buying it at a pawn shop in Florida for $125.00..... Steve Z December 2nd, 2009, 11:23 PM I have a '50s Tweed (officially called "Leatherette") Alamo AMP-3 "Embassy" and AMP-5 "Montclair" that really sing. The AMP-3 plays stong as ever with new caps, 3-prong cord and a reconed speaker (sad but needed). The AMP-5 is still in the shop getting some similar TLC. I can't wait to get it back and hear how it sounds. Embassy: 6 watts; 6SL7GT, 6V6GT, 5y3GT; 10" Alamo Alnico 5 speaker original price = $82.50 Montclair: 15 watts; 12AX7, 6SLGT, (2) 6V6GT, 5Y3GT; 12" Jensen original price = $124.50 (the other amp in the back is a Masco MAP-15 likely from the late '40s?) http://www.joomlaparty.com/gtr-room/alamo-amps.jpg Wally January 29th, 2010, 07:17 PM Okay, so I can join this club! I have an Alamo Paragon in the wooden 'A' cab ...big brother to the one that Kid Klash pictures in post #7. The amp runs 2 6L6's through a P15N and has a push button tone section. PIcs coming if I can find them. thebraveadultcl March 3rd, 2010, 03:40 PM i have an alamo challenger 2562 with only two inputs . original cab and speaker was ok but untill i took the amp and hooked it to 2 12" ,it lit up! so i built a dovetailed pine cab for two 12"s and it sounds great . i wish there was a alamo site with all schematics cause all i can find is the one for the challengers with three inputs. when i got mine the volume and tone pot was misssing so my 16 yr old ass screwed with it till i got sound . Now that im thirty i have it playin alot better . ill try to post sum pics later. Wally March 3rd, 2010, 03:45 PM MY only Alamo these days is a Paragon....wooden 'A' cab, 1X15 JEnsen P15N, 2X6L6's and a push button tone section. IT is a looker. Patty Loveless had a video some years ago with one or two of them on the stage behind her. I have a standing offer from OZ for it, but I likes it too much. lareplus March 11th, 2010, 11:16 PM Were the Alamo bass cabinets any good? Saw one in a pawn shop. Some day I would like a little Alamo low watt amp. . Jahmbie March 17th, 2010, 02:00 PM http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/17/l_c4a2517da16fe1cb7baf356dc1e2b4ae.jpg Bought this at a Music-Go-Round for $40. Put a Weber Ceramic Sig 10 in it and it sounds great! 3rdDIY March 19th, 2010, 10:49 PM The first and last tube amp I ever owned was an Alamo combo with an A/B circuit. It looked a little like the second amp in the group photo above. I plugged a Radio Shack solid state preamp thingy in to replace of the preamp tube, which kept having harmonic pinging along with some of my notes. Back then I had a Hagstrom III that had seen better days. I can't remember where I got it or for how much. I traded it for a modern Charvel practice amp which was perfect for my circumstances and never looked back. When I worked for a little while at Kendrick, I had it over there and apart. Surrounded by millions of dollars in classic amps beggin for repair, it attracted little notice. InyoTim November 21st, 2010, 02:49 PM I'd like to join the Alamo owners club with this Dart. It was given to me years ago. It didn't work, so I stuck it away for a someday project. A few weeks ago I checked it out and found totally shot filter caps and one bad tube. I also replaced the lone electrolytic bypass cap and added a three prong cord. It sounds pretty good all things considered. xStonr November 23rd, 2010, 07:43 PM I got this one very cheap for it needed tubes and a speaker. It's a Vibro Champ clone. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b267/xStonr/Alamo01.jpg TheGoodTexan January 4th, 2011, 11:19 PM I'll proudly join this club with my 1967 Alamo Montclair Reverb, purchased in 1999 for $90. All hand wired, PTP, and even had the original speaker at the time (my Dad blew it about a year later). So now I'm rocking a Greenback. My Alamo has become my #1 go-to amp of all time. Keep the volume around 5-6, and pump the bass for lots of clean headroom and nice bottom-end bloom. Get around the 7-8 mark for a little natural and beautiful break up that really responds to pick attack. Cranked all the way to 10... and with my Maxon OD9... and my humbucker-equiped Strat... and I'm on to classic EVH. It even plays well with my custom fuzz pedal. I've never seen another one in person. If anyone has a Montclair Reverb that they'd be willing to part with, please PM me. dabluzman January 22nd, 2011, 02:22 AM My Dad bought me me an Alamo back around 1966. It was a combo with a two 12 bottom. I dont remember too much about it. My first amp. I wanted a Twin. Traded it in a couple of years, the head anyway, for a Twin. Kept the 2 -12 bottom another 5 or 6 years until it blew. Visions of Davey Crockett went thru my mind as my Dad said, Son, HERE is the amp you've been asking for..........never send a Dad to a Teens job. Pops was great and he did help in other ways too ironmike January 22nd, 2011, 03:31 PM I played Alamo amps for almost 5 years. They were absolutely wonderful. The biggest problem I ran into was the lack of schematics for them. When they broke down, I had a hell of a time finding techs around here who would work on them. Since then I have developed a relationship with the folks over at Bugera and now use their amps. I am still searching for a match to that elusive Alamo tone, but the V22 I currently use can get close. Sometimes I plug my V22 into the 15" speaker of one of my old Alamos. I'll try to get some pics when I get back home. Got a show in Arkansas tonight. InyoTim January 23rd, 2011, 10:18 PM I've finished all the work on my Dart and installed a 10" Magnavox alnico that was a pull from a thrown away organ. I was playing it today and thought a bit of reverb would be nice. I used my rack mount reverb and this was what it needed. It can't make a lot of volume, but it sounds as sweet as any amp I own. ironmike January 26th, 2011, 01:33 PM Here's a pic of my Alamo Paragon. Best sounding amp I ever owned!! http://img.mobypicture.com/f78ec627b3282bb8f4eb079d1ed7e87e_full.jpg fuzzstache May 26th, 2011, 09:26 PM I just picked up an Alamo Challenger (the wide version) modded with a Jensen MOD and EH tube for $100. It is definitely the tone I was looking for, I love the crunch - it sounds sort of like a Selmer Zodiac. I think I got a great deal on it, I did a shootout with a Rickenbacker TR and Ampeg solid state combos at the store and the Alamo blew them out. It says it's 50 watts but it's quieter than my 10W combo, anybody know what's with that? InyoTim May 26th, 2011, 09:39 PM It says it's 50 watts but it's quieter than my 10W combo, anybody know what's with that? Nice score fuzzstache. It puts out the same power as a Fender Champ. The 50 watts is how much line power it consumes to produce the output wattage. I have a EH 6V6 in my Champ clone and it sounds nice. fuzzstache May 27th, 2011, 10:51 AM Nice score fuzzstache. Thats what I figured. Thanks for the reply! waytooslow December 30th, 2011, 12:34 PM Picked up this Old Dart at a second hand shop for a bill. Works but scares me as it's a widow maker. Planning on a iso transformer install. http://www.hacksaw.com/images/AlamoDart.JPG And just scored this Challenger form 72 ish.. had this amp when I started high school. http://www.hacksaw.com/images/AlamoChallenger.JPG It needs a little work, but sounds good considering its 40 years old. Warm Gums January 12th, 2012, 10:21 AM Have a 2525, one of the latter all ss models, still a great sounding little champalike. string breaker July 5th, 2012, 12:41 AM New user here, but I've been using an Alamo for about 6-7 years now. AFAIK it's all original. Inside it is labelled (handwritten) as a paragon reverb; head and 2x12 cab. However, after more internet research than i like to remember, the model number 2579, was originally named pro-reverb... I'm guessing that was changed to not have to deal with a potential lawsuit. Anyways, after all that research, it's 35 watts/70 peak, and runs a 5u4, 2-6l6, 7199, 3-12ax7, and a 6u8a. Sound wise, its amazing, and has tone all its own. Considered selling it many times, but never could cause its just too simple... volume on each channel, reverb and trem speed/intensity on reverb channel, and a master tone. I'll post pics as soon as i find my camera. xStonr July 5th, 2012, 03:47 PM I got this one very cheap for it needed tubes and a speaker. InyoTim September 24th, 2012, 10:21 PM There are very few schematics for Alamo amps available snowman910. If anybody has them, they are not sharing. I gave up trying to get one for my Dart. ntmo April 13th, 2013, 05:35 PM I don't own an Alamo amp but I have bid on them numerous times on Ebay, I love the YouTube vids, I'll get one someday. |
